Visit to Stacey

It’s been a pleasure driving to see Adrian and Stacey. We left early and discovered that winter is arriving in the Cape…7C

As we drove through the countryside, I was struck by the peace. Because we had left early, there was not much traffic and soon we had rolling hills and an empty freeway ahead of us. It was most soothing and just what I felt I needed.

One of the disadvantages of working from home is the potential to get cabin fever! Being stuck inside with only brief dashes to the shops to prevent starvation, leaves one feeling cooped up…me at least. A visit to the country results in a deeper sense of peace and relaxation. It is so very quiet here (Swellendam). Everything moves at a slower pace. The shops are quiet. The streets are quiet. The people are quiet. Certainly a little piece of paradise. Protea in Stacey’s garden…

I love doing road trips. With the house and the cat looked after, there is no reason not to do a road trip. With my job being able to be done remotely and with most bnbs having wi-fi, I can imagine Mike and I doing a prolonged road trip some time in the future. Maybe going away for a few weeks and just stopping where we want. Working for a few hours a day and seeing the area for the rest of the day. All I need is my laptop, internet and my cell phone.  I don’t think that will happen this year, but hopefully next.

#263 of my 1000 thanks is for this little road trip! Family time! 🙂

There’s another thing I want to write about – on an even more personal note. I’m going to mention it here and possibly expand on it at a later stage once I’ve done more research.

I’ve been having heart palpitations at night. I’ve had them on and off for quite some time. The doctor said my heart was fine. Recently though, they have got worse. This last week I found the cause: caffeine! See on Monday I went to Johannesburg. Mike made me a cappuccino early in the morning and I had another at the airport (about 11am). After that, in the evening I had a decaf. So that was 2 shots of caffeine and I had no problems that night. Slept like a baby and was grateful for no weirdo heart poundings and flutterings! On Thursday I had a very busy day. I worked for 9 hours, shopped, cooked and went to the airport to pick up my brother. Also, it rained (yay) and was cold and wintry….just the day for hot drinks. I had FOUR cappuccinos! Yip. 4.  On Thursday night I thought I was dying! My heart raced and fluttered and itched and whirled. Of course, I was up until way after midnight struggling with this. I thought I would die in the night!

I woke up the next day, glad to still be alive!  It didn’t take long for it to dawn on me – this was totally related to the coffee. So yesterday I had one cup and last night I was absolutely fine. Today I’ve only had one (well it was on the road, so maybe it was a grande and had a double shot!)

But for those of you who suddenly hit menopause (some call it mentalpause) and are getting strange beatings and flutterings in your chest, it’s probably a coffee thing.

I’m so grateful that that’s been figured out.

When it does start happening, it seriously feels that death is imminent. So unnerving and worth ditching some coffee for. I’ll treat myself to one a day and if I’m out, I’ll go for decaf instead!

Matthew 6:8

“…your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.”

I’m so glad about that!

These are the days!

Keep the smile going!

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
