It was with quite a lot of shock that I googled the latest on the van Breda murders to find a story released in the press yesterday to say that there was not enough evidence to make an arrest and that the police have no suspect to charge!
Huh?
I was pretty speechless. No suspect to charge? As far as I could see from what I’ve read and heard and had been said to me, I could think of one!
But let’s just say there are really no suspects to charge.
Why then did they not get an identikit from Henri van Breda? After all, he saw the intruder and could explain the order in which the attacks took place. He should have got a good look at the attacker.
Why was there not a manhunt after the murders? They were brutal and if a heartless, violent axe murderer could take down 3 adults on his own, surely he is capable of more attacks. The residents of Stellenbosch should be very worried that there is such a person on the loose.
A top lawyer was assigned to Henri – in fact, according to IOL, the lawyer who represented Shrien Dewani was hired to represent Henri. This would not be for nothing.
This morning EWN reported that the investigation is ongoing and that the police did not have enough evidence to make an arrest and neither do they have a motive for the murder. According to reports there will be revision of the case next week and it may then be referred for judicial inquest. I certainly hope it is.
This whole thing just makes people angry. In South Africa, a lot of people point at shoddy police work, but across the world there is injustice every day. Murder and violence takes place – the perpetrators get away with it.
But that won’t be forever.
If you are a regular reader of my blog, you will have read many times that my perspective is an eternal one. You may get away with wrong-doing this side of eternity, but once you have breathed your last, you will be called to account.
Ecclesiastes 12:14
For God will bring every deed into judgement, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.
Live your life as an open book. Do not have anything to hide.
For the perpetrator of this barbaric crime, he will live this life in chains, even if he walks free. He will always know what he did and he will have to live with himself. Best thing is to ‘fess up and pay the price.
6 months. Martin. Teresa. Rudi. We remember them.
God bless you.
