Time To Talk About This…

Tuesday

Today was the day Mike and I walked to town twice. As I have cancelled my gym membership, we are trying to get more exercise fitted in. Every time we go out, of course, there at 83 steps from the kerb, to get to our front door. That in itself is exercise.

A few weeks ago when I weighed in, I was horrified. No. Mortified. Distressed. I was heavier than I’d ever been and had no hope of losing it. I wasn’t going to gym and walking to the beach and back wasn’t enough to get the weight off. I had to do something different. Stacey had told me about an app she was using and so I sent her a message asking for its name and I registered for the free version.

Enter Cronometer.

Pronounced Crow-nom-eater.

Ha ha, it’s funny seeing it as crow-nom-eater because I literally have been eating like a bird.  When registering, it asks for gender, age, height and weight. Then it calculates the calories you need to live for a day.

After I put those details in, I was amazed. I had loads of calories available so I set about using the budget. After a while, sanity prevailed and I wondered what I was doing wrong. I hovered over a particular spot and it said it had calculated my calorie intake to maintain my current weight!

Say WHAT?!

I don’t want that! So I found the place to put in my goal weight and I picked 10kg less and that I wanted to lose at a rate of 0.9kg a week (that was one of the options) and then I was on my way.

I started two weeks ago on Wednesday 25th November and have lost 3.5kg, so clearly it is working. It’s given me a very strict calorie quota (less than 1000 calories a day). In order to eat more, I have to exercise. It’s not running or other strenuous exercise – it’s just walking for pleasure and doing our steps as we need to. I’ve got another 3.5kg to lose to get to my regular weight and I’m expecting it to get harder.

This is definitely the way to do it. Today Riana came and bought with her lemon tart. It was soooo sweet. I have a fabulous kitchen scale that makes weighing really easy. I had 38g of this tart and it was 141 calories. I have learned where the calories lie. The choice is mine. A full cream cappuccino or 38g of tart – calories are the same. Can’t have both. Although, if I take out most of the milk of a cappuccino it does reduce the calories by a lot. This is my chart for today…

With Christmas coming, I see I am going to be doing a lot of  walking!

I had a good work day and with friends over, it was a nice social one as well.
