So the other day Mike and I were sitting in bed having decaf and thinking how nice it tasted. We had got decaf coffee beans from Woollies and you really can’t tell the difference. I always get suspicious when something seems too good to be true. There must be a catch. So we Googled how do you take caffeine out of coffee beans and this is what came up…
About methylene chloride, this is what Wiki says,
“It may be carcinogenic, as it has been linked to cancer of the lungs, liver and pancreas in laboratory animals. Other animal studies showed breast cancer and salivary gland cancer. Research is not yet clear as to what levels may be carcinogenic”.
Oh joy!
But if you look more carefully at the picture above it is an article by coffeeconfidential.org that gives an in-depth explanation (you can read that here). They mention that all the horror chemicals are washed off and could not survive the high temperatures at which the coffee beans are roasted.
So perhaps decaf coffee is not as bad as first appears, although look out for Swiss Water Processed or Naturally Decaffeinated as that’s definitely the safer option.
Today has had the blessing of lovely rain. It hasn’t rained hard, but it has cooled the Cape after yesterday’s heat wave. It is much colder tonight that last night and it looks like the rain is set to continue tomorrow.
#375 of my 1000 thanks is for my electric blanket. I’m tucked up in bed using my little notebook. Today seemed to run away with me. Suddenly it was past 7pm and I had not done my blog. So I put the electric blanket on, showered and have climbed into my warm bed. A real blessing.
Psalm 23:3
He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for His name’s sake.
It is the first day of August. The year is flying by.
These are the days!
Keep the smile going!
God bless you!
In His Grip,
