The Storm

I think everyone who lives in Cape Town will have a story about the storm. It’ll probably be in the end a full 24 hours of wind and rain, although our little neighbourhood has pretty much stood firm through it all. In Sun Valley, I saw no roofs blown off and no trees blown onto the road. The only thing I did see was a tree in an open lot of land that seemed to be in process of blowing over. Also in one section of the suburb, Wastetech had not emptied the bins from yesterday so they were left out and had blown over, so some of their contents were spilling out. That was a bit of a pain for the owners.

Mike and I slept downstairs last night. Our upstairs bedroom is not brick and so can be very noisy when the wind is blowing. Besides, I didn’t want to be in that room if the roof blew off! I actually slept well downstairs – I could hardly hear the storm until the huge bolt of lightening this morning which was followed by a massive clap of thunder.

I see there has been some serious damage in the city. Someone posted this photo to Facebook…their car got crushed by a tree.

I have also heard there have been several deaths. The storm has raged on and off all day with periods of intense rainfall and strong winds. Earlier, I drove past the Sun Valley pond and it still didn’t have a single puddle in it. Perhaps it will have by now.

The first part of my day, I spent in my pajamas in bed with the duvet up to my nose and only my hands above the blankets as I worked on my laptop. Eventually, my laptop battery began to die, so I got up and got dressed before working more at my desk.

Then I had a break.

Julian arrives this evening from Johannesburg. There is no knowing if his flight will be on time or delayed or diverted. I’ve got the flight number and will keep an eye out on Flightaware.

I think right now I will do a bit more work but not without wrapping myself in a blanket. I’m cold! It’s suddenly become a whole lot more overcast and ominous….no doubt more rain is about to fall and here it comes.

They did the right thing by closing the schools.

#317 of my 1000 thanks is for safety in the storm.

Psalm 118:24

This is the day the Lord has made – I will rejoice and be glad in it.

These are the days!

Keep the smile going.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
