1-10pm
It has been a very nice weekend. After I dragged myself out of bed at lunchtime yesterday, Mike & I went to Clovelly Golf Club and for R40, he hit 50 balls and then had unlimited bunker and chipping practice. It was a lovely day…
It’s just above the left mountain!. Here’s Mike practicing his chipping…
…and here’s the amazing ball collecting cart….
I love that the driver is caged in, in case he gets ‘klapped’ while he’s collecting!
After that we went out for a steak, then got out a movie called The Trial, which was a courtroom drama. It was quite good by itself but had the added value of a Christian undertone. Look out for it. After the movie, we went for a walk on the beach.
This morning dawned and has turned into a really warm, balmy day…
I had promised Bobbi from the United Evangelical Fellowship in Fish Hoek that we would visit her church one day. Today was the day…
They meet in the Wellwood Chapel. No big band or drums here – rather an keyboardist playing the “organ” and very enthusiastic pianist…
The hymns went down very well. The message was by John Broom and he preached on Romans 10 which was excellent. Meaningful prayer and a missions slot added to the service. The older folk of Fish Hoek will find a comfortable spiritual home here.
Back home, we had an early curry lunch…
The shock of the day was to hear of the untimely death of SABC Morning Live presenter Voyu Mbuli. I don’t watch morning TV because I’m on air at that time, but he has been around a long time and I remember him from years ago. Also, from time to time, the CCFm TV will be on and I will see his face in the early morning. He collapsed at a rugby match in Bloemfontein last night, was rushed to hospital and died in the early hours of this morning. The cause of death is not yet known, but it sounds like it could have been a stroke, heart attack or aneurysm. While we enjoy a regular weekend, there are others mourning. It’s a reminder, life is fragile. It’s all we know as earth-bound humans, but that does not mean this is all there is. I saw an excellent illustration on FB the other day, that’s worth reproducing here…
“In a mother’s womb were two babies. One asked the other: “Do you believe in life after delivery?” The other replies, “why, of course. There has to be something after delivery. Maybe we are here to prepare ourselves for what we will be later. “Nonsense,” says the first. “There is no life after delivery. What would that life be?”
“I don’t know, but there will be more light than here.
Maybe we will walk with our legs and eat from our mouths.” The other says “This is absurd! Walking is impossible. And eat with our mouths? Ridiculous. The umbilical cord supplies nutrition. Life after delivery is to be excluded. The umbilical cord is too short.” “I think there is something and maybe it’s different than it is here,” the other replies. “No one has ever come back from there. Delivery is the end of life, and in the after-delivery it is nothing but darkness and anxiety and it takes us nowhere.” “Well, I don’t know,” says the other, “but certainly we will see mother and she will take care of us.” “Mother??” You believe in mother? Where is she now? “She is all around us. It is in her that we live. Without her there would not be this world.” “I don’t see her, so it’s only logical that she doesn’t exist.” To which the other replied, “sometimes when you’re in silence you can hear her, you can perceive her. I believe there is a reality after delivery and we are here to prepare ourselves for that reality….”
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”
God bless you loads.
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
