Sunday
Today was the day…
The rain poured down but one part of the downpipe had com adrift from the connector to the gutter. This resulted in water gushing down the hill causing mud to collect at each of the landings. It also meant no water was going into the water tanks. It actually happened yesterday, so all the overnight rain washed down the hill. Today the wind had abated and so Mike got the longest ladder he could find and balanced it as securely as he could on the rocks behind the house. With me holding the ladder (as if I could stop it from slipping off the little rock beneath), he carefully climbed up and swung the deviant pipe back to its partner.
Only thing was he couldn’t reach far enough to secure it, so he had to gingerly come down the ladder to find a stick. I wish I could have got a photo of this exercise, but my cell phone was inside and I wasn’t about to leave my post. With long stick in hand, he managed to hit the two pieces together and once again, as the rain fell, the tanks filled. This fixit job was done early as right after it, we went across to the old house and spent a couple of hours sorting our files. In getting all the files in the house together, I shredded 2 bags of old documents. Mike found some of his father’s newsletters he was responsible for writing in 1945 – such historic stuff that got added to the ‘to keep’ pile.
With the files boxed, we returned home and lugged the lot up the 82 steps. The downpipe repair had held secure. There were periodic showers throughout the day making the delicate operation worth it.
Once home, a few things happened. We unpacked what we had bought across and then Stacey and I skyped. Elsie of course was also there and chipped in with her ever growing vocabulary. She’s so cute. While that was happening, David arrived, so he and Stace also had a catch up.
Mike then made spaghetti bolognaise as Peter and Riana were coming for lunch. Feeding them is no stress. Such a pleasure!
Later in the afternoon, we went for a walk and now have had a quiet evening. The rain has all but passed. The sea is calm. The wind has dropped. The lights of the city are beginning to twinkle and we are looking forward to the new week. Tomorrow will be a busy one for me with three online appointments and an orthodontist visit.

Isaiah 30:15
In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength.
I love that verse.
The best is yet to come.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
