The Most Important Text Message Ever

1-31pm

While yesterday’s blog got a lot of attention due to it being regarding Henri van Breda and the tragic Stellenbosch murders.  It’s not an easy topic to think about, nor write about. The only way for me to cope with the enormous tragedies that we see in life is to constantly remind myself to try and see the bigger picture. It’s not all about today. Our life’s book is only half written this side of eternity. I pray for the salvation of all mankind, so that they can have that assurance.

One of the most important things that keeps me grounded, focussed and hopeful is the Word of God. Reading it will change your life.

This morning at our Friday Ladies Meeting we watched an Andy Stanley message entitled 2G2BT, on which he says:

“Poetry. Prophecy. Biography. War. Sex. Betrayal. The Bible includes all the ingredients of great literature. But this isn’t a simple bookits a collection of ancient documents that tell the story of a loving Father who seeks to redeem His children. It’s a story we are still part of today. And whether you’re a skeptic or a believer, you’ll find that the influence and relevance of this incredible compilation of writings seems 2G2BT (too good to be true).”

Andy Stanley

If you want to hear about the Bible as you probably have never done so before, go and watch this. It was a brilliant explanation of how the Bible fits together.

What makes the Bible so powerful is that it is written by 40 authors over 1500 years with none of them influencing the writing of others. It’s central theme is the story of redemption. If you have heard me ‘harp’ on about the Bible on this blog before, please forgive me for harping on some more! I’m a fan. It’s changed my life. I’m passionate about the Word of God. I see its power in my life time and time again. It keeps me on the straight and narrow like no other influence in my life. God guides me using it. God chastises me through it. God gives me wisdom through it. It is the most important text message ever. I just have to read it.

I’m not alone in my passion. Andy Stanley couldn’t make it clearer in his message. Enthusiasm for the Word of God oozes out, Liz Kampers who heads up Fish Hoek School of the Bible. Famous people across the world have seen and experienced its worth. Ronald Reagan said, “Within the covers of the Bible are the answers for all the problems men face”. Theodore Roosevelt said “A thorough knowledge of the Bible is worth more than a college education.” Queen Elizabeth II said “To what greater inspiration and counsel can we turn than to the imperishable truth to be found in this treasure house, the Bible?”

And no one sums it up more succinctly than the writer to the Hebrews, 4:12

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

In his message this morning, Andy Stanley suggested 5 days of reading. Monday, read the Ten Commandments; Tuesday read the account of David and Bathsheba; Wednesday read how Nathan confronts David; Thursday read Psalm 51; Friday read John 8. It will really give you insight into the some of the characters and direction of the Bible.

It’s not about now. Earth is our ‘home for now’. We are just passing through. Eternity awaits. Enjoy every moment.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
