The Horn of Africa

I don’t think we will actually be able to see the horn of Africa but in the next 24 hours we definitely will have rounded it. I found us on another cruise tracker. I figured that if Mike can pick us up on his cell phone GPS, we can’t be that hidden from view….

The other surprise is the internet. While it comes and goes with irritating frequency, when it comes, it’s pretty efficient! We’ll wait and see if it stays that way.

On my little baby laptop, I have full internet and 3 gigs to use while on this cruise. On my cell phone I have what’s called the social package which allows me access to unlimited Facebook and whatsapp. It was on FB this morning that I learned of shots being fired at Cape Town International Airport. That was worrying. I have been in the airport before and wondered what would happen if there was an emergency of that nature. It’s very difficult to not be absolutely terrified. With it being gang related, it again just highlights the need for the city to do something about the gang wars that terrorize our suburbs. Surely, something can be done to put an end to them?

At 8am, Mike & I hit the gym and then went for a walk around a warm and windy top deck. Not having any sunblock on, we didn’t stay long, choosing to return to our cabin with mugs of tea and showering before settling down with our books. I’ve recounted the pages left in my book. I’ve 370 pages of Anna Karanin to go, so if I am to finish it before the end of the cruise, I need to read 30 a day. The story has become quite gripping and the reading is not difficult.  Obviously, on these days at sea, there is more time for reading.

At 10-30am we went downstairs. They had a virtual reality headset set up for walking through one of their new ships and seeing a future cruise that is on offer. Mike, very keen on the virtual reality bit enjoyed every minute. We then went to a talk on scams. It’s the first of three and was very interesting.

Having skipped breakfast again, right after the lecture we went to the upstairs diner for lunch. We were starving. After lunch we read some more and then had a snooze. Now it’s 2-45pm ship time (an hour in front of SA) and I’ve come upstairs to the one of the decks to write the blog.

The casualty of my to-do list is the blog I’m supposed to be writing on the yachts. Oh dear! I need to apply my mind! The washing is up to date. Bible reading is up to date. Blog is up to date.  Yacht blogs are trailing behind!

Mike and I are thoroughly relaxed and enjoying a serious holiday! It’s wonderful.

There are many things to be grateful for here. This is a big privilege but if I look at a small pleasure amidst the many, #450 of my 1000 thanks will be the breeze that is cooling as we have exited the Red Sea and entered the Gulf of Aden.

Jeremiah 32:27

“I am the Lord, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me?”

With God all things are possible.

These are the days!

Keep the smile going!

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
