It’s a sad day as Hannelie Groenewald remembers the tragic events that unfolded in Kabul one year ago today. Her husband, Werner and their two teenage children, JP and Rode were killed at their compound in Afghanistan’s capital city. Hannelie was out at the time and survived the attack. While she would have in many instances preferred to die with them, she understands that she survived for a purpose. She has spent the last year grieving, proclaiming God’s love for all mankind and seeking His will for hers.
I wrote about the devastating attack on 1st December last year South African Family Martyred for their Faith.
I followed Hannelie’s response – how she had forgiven those who snatched her family from her.
And I prayed for her. Every day.
Today, Hannelie’s sister posted this on Facebook:
And I will continue to pray. Those who give up their lives for the sake of the gospel, have a special place in God’s heart. He understands their pain and suffering. He knows it too well, because He gave up His life for them. He knows the sacrifice.
Revelation 6:9
“When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the witness they had borne. ”
As today passes and I remember and pray for Hannelie and her family, I also remember the date. 29:11 Only God can bring to life the true meaning of Jeremiah 29:11 to Hannelie’s life.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
What the enemy meant for harm, God can use for good.
Hannlie believes that. So do I.
To God be the glory.
The best is yet to come.
God bless you.
In His Grip,
