Today we left home for Swellendam at 5-07am, more than an hour earlier than last time. Instead of passing 1000 cars on Baden-Powell Drive, this morning we only passed 108. We got to the N2 in half an hour. It began to rain and pretty much poured down from Somerset West to shortly before Caledon – all in the catchment area. While it made for difficult driving, we celebrated each and every drop. After Caledon, the rain stopped, but there were some serious clouds ahead…
It rained again between Riviersonderend and Swellendam. Our journey this time was 2 hours and 40 minutes. The family is well. Elsie is a doll. She has got so big and strong. She is 3 months old on Tuesday. She smiles and is so alert. It was such a treat spending time with her. She soon went to sleep. Adrian and Stacey were both working and Mike was determined to play golf. At the first sign of the rain stopping, we headed for Swellendam Golf course. Mike went in to pay, while I got his clubs out. He came back minutes later with news.
When you drive along the N2 there are numbers of picturesque towns, but it’s hard to find a country town more pleasantly situated than Swellendam. It’s small and friendly and very quiet, so what Mike heard at the golf club today is big news!
Ernie Els had visited!
He had come to investigate the possibility of expanding the club and making a housing estate along with it. Whether this will or won’t happen, remains to be seen, but the fact that the Big Easy had set foot on Swellendam Golf Course’s humble grounds certainly set tongues wagging. It was the first thing Mike was told when he went in. “Have you heard?”
Of course, we went home and told Adrian and Stacey as well. If it does happen, I hope it doesn’t lose its country charm.

It did rain while we were on the course, but we had an umbrella!
After the first 9 holes, Mike hadn’t had enough, and I had, so I left him playing and went home. I actually had a nap and picked Mike up after he called just over an hour later. This afternoon, I looked after Elsie while Adrian and Stacey went for a walk. Mike made a fabulous spaghetti bolognaise. His is always a winner.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, was the day!
#759 of my 1000 thanks – ah, holding Elsie makes my heart sing. 1000 thanks and a 1000 more!
Romans 5:1
Since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
These are the days.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
