Still No Generator

I was all excited about having continuous power during load shedding today, but alas, it was not to be. The battery still didn’t have enough charge to power up the old girl, so we had to make a plan B and it worked! We used my cell phone as a hot spot and while it was quite data heavy (39 minutes = 70 megs), I was able to do some urgent work when I needed to. At least I don’t spend 2 hours stressing over doing nothing when I can see from my email, that there’s important stuff to be done.

Mike asked me this morning if I was adjusting to the new and often stressful responsibility. I certainly am. It’s like when I first started broadcasting. It was so nerve wrecking. I wasn’t fluent; I felt I was constantly making mistakes; I had to learn the system; I had to try to get everything right. All of that took time, but eventually I got into the swing of things, became more confident and was on my way. The same is in the process of happening with this job.

Fortunately there are a couple of things for which I am hugely grateful. My direct manager is extremely patient. While he expects the work to be done asap, he is patient and understanding when little errors are made. I see it in how heΒ  handles others. He sends emails saying, ‘these things happen. We will make other arrangements.’ It has a very calming effect on me. If I make a mistake, I can expect the same grace.

The other thing of course, is that in the big scheme of things, any errors made in this job are not life-threatening. No one will die if I don’t send an email in the next 5 minutes! For that reason, I need to chill a bit.

This morning I was up working at 6am. I gave Mike the gift of sleep and I made coffee for one at 7am. At 8am, Mike woke up and we met the builder, and Julian and David at Echo at 8-30am. Werner needed to find out where the third front pile needs to go, so that was decided. Werner is off to PE for a week, but plans on dropping the contract with us tomorrow. The piling company will start drilling, hopefully in about the middle of next week.

No news from Council. We hope no news is good news.

Another decision was made today. The bougainvillea each side of the garage stays!

I do want to get it properly cut back though.

After the meeting, we had breakfast at the Stag. I worked for the rest of the morning, had a bit of a break during the load shedding, then worked until a short while ago. The next power outage is this evening so I’m getting the blog done now. Then I need to go and get some exercise.

Today David has driven to Tulbagh to play at a wedding. He has played for friend’s weddings a number of times, so it’s great for him to get quite a well paid wedding gig.

And today Elsie is TEN months old! So cute! I can’t wait to see her again. Elsie of the future, when you read this, know you are the most adorable ten month old and bring an enormous amount of joy to our lives. πŸ™‚

Acts 15:11

We are all saved the same way, by the undeserved grace of the Lord Jesus.

What a privilege.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.
