So there I was sitting quietly in the lounge. Mike came down and picked up Truffles and took her upstairs. The next thing I knew, it sounded like a herd of elephants galloping across the roof of the house. What was going on? I went upstairs to find Mike on the roof, saying, ‘get off, go, shoo!’ Gizmo sat, wild-eyed the other side of the roof. Truffles was nowhere to be seen!
Mike walked across the roof. Gizmo knew better. He slunk down the tree and off into the garden. I came out the backdoor, calling Truffles. Gizmo, stared at me, deciding his next move. “Off you go,” I said to him, “Go home.” He did. “Truffles! Truffles! Come kitty kitty!” No sign of Truffles. Mike was still on the roof. I looked high into the tree. Couldn’t see her at all. I walked around the garden. No Truffles! Back to beneath the tree, looking high into the branches trying to make out the grey cat amidst the grey branches. Suddenly I spotted her. She was just sitting there, very quietly, not moving, not making a sound! When she realised she had been seen, everything changed, she immediately started to come down. Mike called her and cajoled her. She eased her way down the trunk until she was level with the house and then she lept onto the roof and up to where Mike was standing! Mike whisked her up and gave her a cuddle. She came back inside and went straight back to her favourite spot…and she has just about stayed there all day…
Gizmo is the neighbour’s cat and has been over here often since Truffles arrived. Gizmo looks like he wants to make friends, but Truffles is a bit guarded. Mike took Truffles onto the balcony where Gizmo was lying in the sun, and put her down a little way away from Gizzie. Gizmo jumped up and promptly went for Truffles who wasted no time bolting onto the roof and heading for the tree. The two cats racing across the roof sounded much louder than you would imagine! It was a bit of a socialisation experiment that went wrong!
Today, Fungai came. She is looking for work. With Granny now in frail care, she has spare time. She is very good, so I wrote a Gumtree advert and posted it…here’s Fungai…
Tomorrow, the FH Methodist church is doing something different. They are having a church picnic at a nearby field. It’s a combination of church and picnic. So there is worship (lead by David), a sermon and a picnic all in one. This afternoon I went and bought picnic food. And look who I bumped into …my friend Bev and her daughter Lisa, both looking really good….Bev’s going to rugby tonight!
Tonight we are going out for dinner. But until then, next on my Saturday agenda is a walk up Silvermine. One of the great blessings of Cape Town are the many mountains and hills that surround us. And one of my favourite Psalms talks of them,
Psalm 122: 1-2 “I lift up my eyes to the hills, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
I see the hills. I’m reminded of Who made them and Who is my Helper.
God bless you loads!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
