This morning was unusually different, yet familiar. Mike set the alarm for really early and by 6am was driving out the garage to get to the company for whom he has been doing some work. It was so strange as he drove away and I fell back into my Mikeless routine of making coffee, doing my Bible reading, getting some exercise and then I got on with work in a very quiet house. I did three hours of computer work and then after sitting at my desk for that length of time, I went to plant a few petunias and allysum. I pulled out a few weeds and then came back to do the blog.
Of my 1000 thanks, #26 is that Mike is retired and there are not too many Mikeless mornings! I’m grateful for that.
There is a verse in the Bible that has been doing the rounds in my head today.
Deuteronomy 29:29
The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.
As I pondered the so many things we don’t understand, I dug a little deeper into this verse and uncovered Matthew Henry’s commentary…
“We are forbidden curiously to inquire into the secret counsels of God, and to determine concerning them. But we are directed and encouraged, diligently to seek into that which God has made known. He has kept back nothing that is profitable for us, but only that of which it is good for us to be ignorant. The end of all Divine revelation is, not to furnish curious subjects of speculation and discourse, but that we may do all the words of this law, and be blessed in our deed. This, the Bible plainly reveals; further than this, man cannot profitably go. By this light he may live and die comfortably, and be happy for ever.”
I love this: He has kept back nothing that is profitable for us, but only that of which is good for us to be ignorant.
God has given us what He wants us to know and held back that which is not helpful to us!
It is for this reason that we can cope with the many things that we don’t understand.
God knows.
And that is good enough.
Regardless of the things we don’t understand we have hope and can trust that God is a loving heavenly Father who has our best interests in heart and as Matthew Henry says, “By this light we may live and die comfortably and be happy forever.”
These are the days!
Keep the smile going.
God bless you!
In His Grip,
