Shifting My Weight

2-10pm

Usually Friday mornings I meet with friends for a chin wag and Andy Stanley message, but today I  had a CCFm staff meeting to attend. After the show I went to Blue Route mall to do a few chores and landed at the Mugg having some Helga time. I started the blog using my cell phone.  I am so excited this year… I am turning 50! What a privilege to have been given 50 years to spend on this earth. 18  were spent in Zimbabwe.  32 in South Africa. Cape Town is my home. I just love saying that. I live in CAPE TOWN!  Yahooo! It’s such a beautiful, exotic, multi cultural melting pot. I am just passing through…but have to admit I’d be hard pressed to find a more beautiful city in the world to spend my earthly time.

One of my goals for 2014 is, as you would have read on this blog before is to lose some weight. Originally it was 5kg. BUT my ancient, rusty & I have discovered not so trusty scale has been spinning out the wrong numbers. When I look upon it with glee when it joyfully IMG_20140131_101928displays 70kg, it’s LYING!!! To my horror,  it’s weighing 2kg less than I really am. This means that at 72kg, I have 7kg to lose & not 5!! To shift the weight is possible but the process is radical. This week I had 2 scrambled eggs for breakfast, generously doused with about 20 ml coconut oil.  For lunch I had a dozen almonds. For dinner I had meat & either veg or salad.  I lost a kilogram!  Is it sustainable?  Only really on the days I don’t do gym. Mel works us hard & I don’t have enough energy to perform on 12 almonds. So I ate a little more yesterday morning to compensate for the  60 minutes of high impact exercise. I can manage when doing my hour-long walks.  So my plan is to keep this going as sensibly as possible…it’s very low carb & medium fat. I can see myself at 65kg by November. 😀  My interim goal is 69kg by end March. Absolutely do-able (without OSOlean friends, WITHOUT Osolean!). I was 72.8kg on the gym scale on Tuesday. I was 71.9kg yesterday! Fridays are my ‘carb days!’ I don’t want to waste calories or carbs. If I’m going to have carbs, they had better be my absolute favourite. That has to be a croissant, but it comes at a cost of  19g carbs (Ouch!).  It came with butter, grated cheese & 2 pieces of ham. That’s all fine for LCHF. There was also about 150ml of plain yoghurt. Unfortunately I could taste it was low fat. And the strawberry jam, I didn’t eat! It was a great brunch, and it has sustained me.

BrunchOne of the problems I have is that I eat breakfast at 5-30am (the two eggs). So usually by 12, I’m really really really ready for my dozen almonds!  I will experiment with having a high fat/protein snack (more than 12 almonds) mid morning prior to my workout on gym days. I washed the above all down with a glass of water and a red cappuccino sans honey…

Red CappuccinoWatch this space for my progress. I’m weighing in every Thursday and will put my weight on my blog! Ha! Now that’s accountability!

Tuesday 4th February between 7 & 8am, Professor Tim Noakes will be in the Rise and Shine studio (107.5 Cape Town wide – www.ccfm.org.za on the internet. You can also look for the CCFm android app on the playstore – free download) . He will be answering questions from listeners. You are welcome to fill in this from and send it along and we will pose your questions to him.

God wants us to be happy both at home and at work…

Solomon wrote as recorded in  Ecclesiastes 3:12-13

“I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live; also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil—this is God’s gift to man.”

~- God’s GIFT to man ~

Wow!

Take pleasure – be joyful – do good – as long as you live! God’s gift!

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂

Gratitude / Happiness Pic… The surprising amount of pleasure my husband expressed after he had seen my sloshy message in shaving lotion on his mirror….

Mirror MessageNote: DO NOT use too much shaving lotion. A little goes a long way. (Picture Helga at 3-45am with her hands covered with the stuff!) Hence the blob in the bottom left hand corner…trying to get rid of the excess! I once put “I love you” on his car window in lipstick. He left it on until it wore off! 🙂
