You’ve seen them before. Crazy people who run across a freeway. Today I became one of them! I am in Johannesburg for the teacher interviews as a recruiter for a teaching recruitment company and they were held this morning at the Southern Sun Hotel OR Tambo airport. So, we did the wise thing and put the address into my cell phone and the gps directed us. But she took us through the airport parking and we got hopelessly lost. In the end, I told wonderful Jenny to get us back to the freeway and when we were along side the hotel, she stopped and I jumped out. I climbed over the barrier and bolted across the road. Fortunately, the sun is rising earlier in Johannesburg than it is in Cape Town and by the time this was happening, it was already light. I then walked all the way around the perimeter fence of the hotel until a kind security guard showed me the way to the entrance. For his trouble, he scored a copy of the gospel of John. I also left one for Jenny! By 6-30am, I was in the hotel and being directed to the interview rooms. After I arrived, I spoke to a number of people who also struggled to find the way in. And, one person said that once in, it was really difficult to find the way out, so I was happy for Jenny’s sake that she didn’t have to face that challenge!
And so began 5 hours of walking. I chowed through about 900 calories and walked 5km. The interviews went off with a number of hitches, but they did get done. We’ll see what the outcome is for this round.
I found a couch in the hotel, snuck away round a corner and here I have a plug to charge my phone and I can put my feet up. I’m sort of out of sight so no one is walking past seeing my relaxed pose. Trust me, my feet need to be up. This is certainly quieter than the airport, so I’ll hang out here for another couple of hours. This is my view…
#331 of my 1000 thanks is for good interviews – the panels that carried my applicants had good connections. 🙂
#332 of my 1000 thanks is that I was able to pass the Gospels of John on. Hopefully they will get to be read. My job is done…I just had to give them away.
Right now, the busy-ness of the morning is ebbing away. I’ve had a burger without the bun and am destressing. Shortly, I will speak to my colleague in Abu Dhabi and catching up with her. After that, I have a few things to do and then I will catch the shuttle to the airport for my flight back to the Mother city. This little rest is very important as I need to be as fresh as possible for tomorrow’s interviews in Cape Town, after which I fly to Durban.
This morning as I tried to find the hotel, the Bible verse that came to mind was this well known one…
Psalm 23:1
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want;
That’s all I need.
These are the days.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
