Pain Hurts!

5-48pm

I’ve been reading Philip Yancey’s Book “Where Is God When It Hurts?” He begins with a fascinating look at how important physical pain is to protecting us. He speaks of a Dr. who was given several million dollars to invent a stimulus to help people like lepers who don’t feel pain. This Dr tried for years to use a system of painless stimuli to alert patients to anything dangerous they were doing that could harm them. If they touched a hot coal, a loud buzzing noise went off, but they just ignored it. As a result they burnt their fingers. In the end, after five years and millions of dollars, they (the scientists)  gave up. Yancey writes: “A system sometimes called ‘God’s greatest mistake’ was far too complex for even the most sophisticated technology to mimic.”  He goes onto say ‘Thank God for pain. Unless the warning system demands response, we might not heed it.”

A good read. A good reminder too, that without knowing pain, we may not know joy. God never wastes pain (Liz Curtis Higgs). Whatever you are going through, press on, keep going. There is light at the end of the tunnel and it’s not an on-coming train! 🙂

John 16:33 Jesus said:- “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Great comfort!

As for the rest of the day, I nipped across the road after the show this morning to take a peak at Muizenberg Station which is having some maintenance done…

It is said to have been designed by a student of Sir Herbert Baker and opened in 1913, although the station itself had been there since about 1883.

I worked until just before 2pm and then came straight home. After a rest, I washed Granny’s hair, cooked dinner and now have been doing my blog and drinking a red cappuccino – it is nice, I have to admit…

And so now, I must go and put Granny to bed and prepare for tomorrow.

To God be the glory – Great things He has done!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
