Only 35000 bicycles in Cape Town…

12-04

Which is a far cry from the 9 million bicycles in Beijing! When the Cycle Tour comes to Cape Town, it’s a big issue for the Southern Suburbs and South Peninsula…roads are closed and loads of people line the streets to watch the strong and the brave tackle the 100+km route. I drove down to Fish Hoek and on the way down noticed the beauty of the day…

A beautiful dayI spent a few minutes on Fish Hoek Main Rd. soaking up the vibe…

Fish Hoek Vibe….I found myself standing right next to Dr. Charles Schuler and his wife Annette. Charles does the Radio Dr. slot on Rise and Shine on Tuesdays at 6-30am…

Dr Schuler and his wife AnnetteThere were crowds of people enjoying breakfast while the bikes buzzed by…

Front row seats…and a very enthusiastic Granny with her granddaughter…

Enthusiastic GrannyI then went to the Sun Valley side of the route, where the cyclists were looking a little tired…

TiredOrganisers have put up a big refreshment centre and medical tent … which was very well used…

Very busy medical stopEmergency personnel were close at hand…

Emergency personell out in full forceThere they go, heading off towards Chapman’s Peak…

Heading off to tackle ChappiesOf course the winner got in hours ago. The men’s race was won by Herman Fouche! He was ecstatic! The winner of the ladies race was Anriette Schoeman. It’s the 36th year since the start of the annual Cycle Tour round Cape Town. Conservatively, it’s worth about R100 million to the Cape Town economy. Mike rode it in 1987 and David last year. Will I ever do it? Nope! Happy to stay a spectator! I have got another race to run…

Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us…”

The one thing that’s so interesting on Cycle Tour day is how quiet it is at my house. The usual constant hum of passing traffic dies down for the day as bicycles take their place. The odd clapping and calling, with an occasional helicopter overhead, is the only reminder that there’s anything going on just 100m up the road. I’m enjoying the peace…(and the cricket!)

Happy Sunday to you!

God bless you loads!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
