One of the Best Things

One of the best things about my life right now is both Mike and I being at home. I was thinking about it this morning as I pondered the things I am most grateful for. My 1000 thanks is supposed to not include repeats. I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this before so I will today:

#267 of my 1000 thanks is for HUGS. Having Mike home, the hugs are a little more frequent. We give thanks for our food twice a day (we don’t have lunch) and when we do, I throw my arms around his neck and within that sweet embrace, Mike says ‘grace’. This is a little personal thing that is actually a huge thing. I appreciate it.

The amount of work that Mike is getting has increased. I’m not sure how long he will be writing code and enlarging the travel programme he is working on, but they keep calling him and asking him for more features.

The other day when I was on my way home from taking Julian to the airport, I was listening to CCFm and heard Wayne and Murray talking about the importance of finding a balance in work –  taking regular breaks and not burning out. Murray said that we all should have 3 things that we do to chill and refresh ourselves during our off days. I guess most people have the same kind of three things depending on their personality.

I have the ability to work 10 or more hours a day, if there is work to be done! In November I worked 240 hours in total. It was over the top and too much of that absolutely will lead to burn-out, so I listened carefully to what Murray had to say and I think, come the weekend, will seriously try and take the allotted time off.

My three things will be to spend time with my friends and family, including Mike of course. I like walking or doing my 30 Day Fitness challenge exercises and I love either reading, doing a Sudoku or watching You Tube videos. In a nutshell, it’s friend/family time, exercise time, Helga time. It is important to discipline myself to have a break and zone out.

Time just doesn’t stop and unless I stop my work clock and walk away from my desk, I end up with square eyes!

I’m grateful for my job – the only thing is I mustn’t let it take over my life! I need to find the right level of balance.

Solomon had this wisdom which is worth heeding…

Proverbs 23:4

Don’t exhaust yourself acquiring wealth; be smart enough to stop.

Absolutely!

These are the days!

Keep the smile going.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
