On The Road Again

Today we headed home. With five sets of (stop/go) road works on the N2 between Swellendam and Caledon, we decided to take the slightly longer, yet faster route home from Swellendam, via Worcester to Cape Town. It’s the R60 – the  road less travelled.

We drove from Swellendam through Ashton and Robertson to Worcester and then along the N1….

We stopped for coffee with this view….

As the Argus Cycle tour was on and we knew the M3 would be closed, we took our time and decided to miss the tunnel and go over du Toit’s Kloof instead…view from the top…

Down the other side,  outside Paarl, is a farm called Leliefontein. Mike and I used to live there. We stayed there from January 1987 to April 1989. We drove down the drive way and took a photo of the cottage we stayed in…

It bought back lots of happy memories. Stacey was born at Paarl hospital and this was her first home. The door behind the tree on the left was our bedroom. The window on the right of it is the bathroom window. Next to that is the lounge window, followed by the front door and the kitchen window.  All the rest to the right of the kitchen window is an extension which was just a lean-to shed when we lived there. Very happy times.

With the M3 being closed until after 12 noon, Mike and I had Plan A, Plan B and Plan C. Plan A was we would go down the M5, then scoot across to Spaanschemat River Road to Ou Kaapse Weg (OKW); Drive over OKW and hopefully get straight home. If OKW was closed on the Sun Valley side, Plan B would be to park on the side of OKW as close as we could to Sun Valley and walk home. If OKW was closed on the Cape Town side, we would go to Westlake for brunch.  Plan A worked and despite dawdling the slow road home, we drove up 4 hours after leaving Swellendam.

We are grateful!

#593 of my 1000 thanks is for a safe trip home and all is well back at the ranch!

Titus 2:11

For the grace of God has appeared, bring salvation for all people.

What a privilege.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
