Today’s goal was to work and also to see the orthognathic surgeon. He has done 9000 jaw operations, so is quite the expert. He was completely honest and concise about what to expect. I asked him what would happen if I did nothing and he admitted that while he used to probably scare patients into having these procedures done, he doesn’t do that now. If you have it done, you will be assured of good oral health and function in old age. He also said the oldest patient he had operated on was 69! It put my mind, and Mike’s, at rest. He said he would quote us now, even though the operation is only expected to be late next year or even early in 2020. We can find out how much medical aid will pay of the op.
So far I’ve submitted three of the five accounts. The one from my filling the other day and today’s (which was R700), I’m holding back until after I’ve had the braces put on, because that day I’m going to have to pay about R15000. I want to submit that next. All this comes out of savings and we are quickly running out of that portion of our medical aid.
Of the three accounts I’ve sent to my medical aid, this is what they’ve paid:
- R1300 – MA paid out R701.70. (Not paid R598.30)
- R3131 – MA paid out R2217.90 (Not paid R913.10)
- R1423 – MA paid R1163.90 (Not paid R259.10)
I paid first and submitted to MA and they paid the above amounts really quickly. The only thing is they have not yet paid out for the stale check! I roll my eyes back. The last we heard was a phone call saying it would be in our account in 48 hours.
So far I’ve paid for R1770.50 of my dental work. It’s only just begun! If it ends up costing (probably best case scenario) R150 000 and MA pays 70% which is what they’ve done so far, I’ll be in for R45000. It is over about 18 months which reduces the impact.
#937 of my 1000 thanks is for Medical Aid. I’m grateful for that.
Two weeks today the braces go on and it will be the start of a whole new season.
I think the strangest thing is that I’ve gone 5 decades before anyone told me there was something wrong with my jaw. Every time the dentist looked inside my mouth, he would have seen the problem. When I had my wisdom teeth out, the surgeon would have seen the problem. My kid’s orthodontist saw it.
No one said a word.
I think they were waiting for me to complain. What she doesn’t know won’t hurt her.
Boggles the mind.
This evening Mike and I went walking. The Kommetjie Road widening is coming along nicely.
Today was a good day. A happy day. It’s Julian’s birthday!
1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
These are the days!
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
No gym. I think I’m going back tomorrow. Throat is better.
