It was 3am and I was awake, in front of my TV watching the US Tennis final between Djokovic and Federer. I wanted Federer to win, but he was slightly off the boil. While there were flashes of his regular brilliance, there were too many unforced errors and he ended up losing in 4 sets.
It was quite a battle with Djokovic breaking Federer’s serve and then Federer breaking back. The match had been delayed by rain, making it start a whole lot later than the planned 10pm (SA time). David came round to watch it with us as the weather forecast was for clouds only, so we were all disappointed when there was no 10pm start. By 11pm,
we had all had enough and while David headed home, we headed for bed. I told him that if I woke up in the night and watched, I’d whatsapp him. So here I was in the small hours of the morning watching this match unfold. I sent David one message and was planning to send him another, but it was such a ding-dong battle that I wasn’t sure what was going to happen next. When Djokovic broke Federer’s serve, I thought it was all over, but then Federer broke back.
“Nothing is ever as it seems”, I thought to myself. When you look at the final score, it seemed straight forward, but if you were witness to the point by point battle, it was a lot tighter and more tense than it finally appeared.
And so it is with life. NO ONE has an easy life.
You may look at someone’s life and think it is all just wonderful, but you are not witness to the point by point battle.
Nothing is ever as it seems.
It is a good lesson to me. Others may look happy on the outside, but inside they are fraught with turmoil.
You just never know.
The best thing is to treat everyone kindly.
Romans 13:8
Owe no one anything, except to love each other…
I’m reminded of what money can’t buy.
The best things in life are free.
Salvation is free.
Hope is free.
It costs nothing to smile.
Keep it going.
God bless you!
