No Foul Play Suspected After Body Found Tied To Buoy Off Fish Hoek Beach

8am

It took a couple of weeks for an autopsy and police investigation to be carried out on the body found suspiciously attached to the bottom of a buoy off Fish Hoek Beach. As he was tied, murder was on everyone’s mind. How else could he have got there?

But police now say they are closing the investigation. The post-mortem revealed the man had drowned.  He had been identified by family members who said they did not want his name to be released.

The man was found on the morning of 2nd January 2015, when shark-spotters saw something in the water. Police said he was aged between 55 & 60 and was wearing goggles and flippers. News also spread that he was tied with a cable tie to the base of the blue buoy a short distance from the catwalk.

When the police released the news that they were closing the investigation, they added that the man was a local resident, he lived alone and was depressed. No further details were given.

The beach is such a happy place. When these things happen, it’s very sad.

What’s sadder is that this person died alone. He died unhappy. I hate it so much when people feel compelled to take their own lives. I always feel I wish I knew them so I could try and stop them. It leaves such a lingering sense of sadness. But you can’t control people.  If you know someone who is depressed, urge them to seek help.  If you are depressed, seek help! God knows your pain. He wants the best for you. Don’t do anything rash. There was no depression so severe than those who suffered in the brutal concentration camps during  the WW2. One survivor said he watched as others purposefully electrocuted themselves against the electric fence surrounding the camp. They could not go on. For them, it was better to die. For the survivor though, while conditions were horrendous and he too was at his wits end, he couldn’t bring himself to kill himself. Why? Because, he said, he wanted to see how it would end. He wanted to see his children grow up. He wanted to see his grandchildren and maybe even great grandchildren. There was more and he didn’t want to miss out. There is more in your life too.

Don’t give up.

Galatians 6:9

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Just keep going.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
