Mystery of the Missing Inverter

Sunday

Dear Elsie

Today some drama unfolded on our street!  We went to church, got home at about 9:30am. Mike went for a run and shortly after he got home, we got news that a black box containing a battery along with an orange inverter had just gone missing from an apartment down the road. The apartment is about 30 steps down the side of a house. The owner’s Mother, Mercia, had been asked to buy and deliver the inverter and battery  to the apartment, which is below the main house. On arrival there was a recent model Mercedes Benz parked outside the pedestrian gate, so she had to park in front of it. She and her son lugged the box out the boot, through the gate and down the stairs. When she got to the front door, she realised she had left the key at home, so she and her family hopped back in the car and drove home to get it. Fifteen minutes later they were back, the Merc was gone and so was the black box and the inverter. She was shocked! Immediately, she notified the lady living in the main house who spread the word of the theft on the WhatsApp group. I walked to the end of the road, keeping a lookout for anything suspicious. It was a beautiful day.

Going back, I encountered Linda from the main house & Mercia and her family. She told me what happened and it sounded really suspicious. Then came news that a man was seen carrying it down the road. Oh really?! I left them and walked home looking over walls and under bushes to see if it had been stashed. This was not an easy steal. It was heavy and bulky and difficult to carry.

On getting home, I sat in my rocking chair and pondered the issue. Then I decided it was not likely it had been stolen. I thought about the Merc and that it had left at the same time as the ‘theft’. What if the owner of the Merc was a guest and had been in the apartment? What if he went to leave, found the black box and inverter on his door step and put it inside for safe keeping? He left, Mercia returned, the box was gone. I posed the question to Linda via WhatsApp. Meantime, the police drove up the road with one policeman checking the side of the road. A few minutes later, this dropped into our WhatsApp group…

Yep, the drama was over and we were so pleased the R9000 battery and inverter had not been stolen!

With that behind us, this afternoon we went to the beach and I had a windy 2km swim. Twas hard work but so refreshing.

Psalm 49:16-17
Do not be overawed when others grow rich, when the splendor of their houses increases;
for they will take nothing with them when they die, their splendor will not descend with them.

The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Gran xx 🙂
