My Moon Pictures

Yesterday we had a ‘mega’ moon that was believed to be 14% bigger and 30% brighter. Last night we took a drive to get a photo.

Mike took a few and this was his best…

supermoon

Amazing. This morning as I lay in bed on a still morning and moon was looking towards sinking to the other side of the world, my photo from my cell phone was less that spectacular but it was beautiful too…supermoon from my room…

The reason the moon was so big was because it was about 5% closer to the earth. The last time it was this close to us was in 1948 and the next time will be 2034, so the astronomers say. But next month’s full moon on December 14th is also expected to be almost as impressive, so if you missed it this week, diarise next month.

As I looked at the moon, a Bible verse came to mind,

Psalm 121:6

The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.

In Bible times, there were beliefs which, in some quarters are still prevalent today, that the moon causes sickness.

Speaking into those fears, the psalmist reassures the people of God that He will watch over them and that the sun will not harm them by day nor the moon by night.

These days, we know about cause and effect. If you sit in the sun all day you will get sunstroke, but moon sickness is, I believe, an old wive’s tale.

God does watch over us. His ultimate protection is of my soul. While my body may perish, my soul will live on. The sun will not harm me by day nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep me from all harm. He will watch over my life. The Lord will watch over my coming and my going both now and forever more. Psalm 121 – it has 8 verses and they are well worth memorizing.

The Lord will watch over my going – my life is in His hands – the day of my birth was planned and so is the day of my going to eternity.

I trust Him.
