If you have a mission statement, it keeps you focused. A mission statement for an individual answers a few questions about why am I here, what I do and how. If you can answer those questions in roughly one sentence, you will have written a mission statement. What happens then is that when you are faced with a decision, you can consider it through the lens of your mission statement. So here’s mine:
Helga van Niekerk exists to glorify God in all that she does, in serving mankind, through her daily blog, article writing, audio broadcast, teaching or through any other way in which God leads her, in a joyful, enthusiastic, grateful, generous manner that will encourage or inspire others to a happier life through a relationship with Jesus.
Wow! That’s hectic! But it’s what I want to be. I want God to be glorified in my life. I love writing. I love broadcasting. I want to rejoice in enthusiasm for being here on earth and I want to inspire and encourage others to be happier. Let’s see if it meets Forbes 4 questions for a good mission statement:
What do I do? Writing, audio broadcasting, teaching or any other way in which God leads me
How do I do it? Joyfully, enthusiastically, gratefully, generously
For whom? Anyone
What value am I bringing? Encouragement, inspiration and God’s love.
What got me going on this was a quote my inspirational gym trainer Melanie put on Facebook:
I love that! Something for you to think about today!
In Cape Town, the rain is pouring down. It looks like tomorrow may be a little better!
Meantime, I’m off to get book a table for dinner tonight and then get stuck into the next chapter of Beth Moore’s Breaking Free. I’m loving it.
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
Gratitude/appreciation pic… yesterday I was driving over Ou Kaapse Weg at sunset and there were these amazing clouds. It took my breath away, but because I was driving, I couldn’t take a photo. I was so happy that my friend Carol took one. When I saw it, I grabbed it. Thanks Carol…
