3-50pm
This morning, I did my usual routine. All seemed well in the house. No abnormal sounds. I went downstairs to pray. Before I had got off the last step, in the darkness I saw Granny’s form on the floor by the door. To my horror, even in the darkness I could see she was covered in BLOOD! I quickly turned the light on and rushed to her to find out what had happened. She was conscious but very pale and looked very confused about what had happened. It was a shocking sight. Not only was she covered in blood, but there was a trail from the spot on the floor on the lounge carpet all the way through to the bathroom. Clearly, she had fallen in the bathroom and managed to scoot on her bottom through to the lounge. She didn’t call, she didn’t shout for help. She just sat there quietly waiting for someone to come. I couldn’t believe it! I called Mike, waking him up with the words, “Mike! Come quick…your Mom has fallen and there’s blood!” Mike bolted downstairs and he could not believe what he was seeing. Blood covered the entire front of her nightie. She had it all over her hands and all over her left ear. Mike and I lifted her onto her chair and then I set about trying to find the source. Mike filled a bucket with jik and started cleaning the floor. I filled a basin and started working on Granny. We found a gash on the right side of her head…it was about 2 1/2 cm long and not quite a cm wide. It probably needed stitches, but it had stopped bleeding. I cleaned her up, and we put her in the wheelchair (thanks Riana!) and wheeled her back to her bedroom. After putting her back to bed, within minutes she was asleep. We figured she had done what I have tried to get her NEVER to do. She got out of bed, did not use her walker or even her walking stick, turned no lights on and in the dark shuffled to the bathroom. Clearly, she must have slipped, banging her head on the corner of the bath! OUCH!
I went off to work. Mike waited for Fungai to arrive and then he left. You can imagine my surprise, when I arrived home to find her fully dressed, sitting on the side of her bed. You would not have known her state 12 hour ago! I checked the gash and it’s fine. So glad we didn’t panic and make a fuss, rushing her off to hospital!
So that was the lowlight of the day. Two highlights…Kezia celebrated her 25th wedding anniversary. Her hubby gave her a b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l ring. To mark the occasion, she sat down with the other two 1964 girls for a photo…
The second highlight of the day was collecting and spending the day with DEBBIE!!! Debbie and I have known each other since we were 6! Yep! 42 years! She lives in KZN and has come to Cape Town to meet up with her brother for a few days. She came in early so we could catch up. It has been wonderful seeing her….
Yay for Debs!It was great to see her.
Proverbs 17:17 A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
I have checked on Granny and she is sleeping.
God bless you loads!
