Mike and I have a very happy marriage and intend to keep it that way!

8-48am

Last night Mike, Julian and I went to see Despicable Me 2. It was fantastic, but stealing the show was the closing sequence. If you haven’t seen it yet, don’t leave your seat til the final, final credits come up. It was brilliant. We went to the 5pm show, planning dinner afterwards. Before the movie started I sent a message to Riana who is well acquainted with Cavendish and surrounding eateries, asking where we should go for dinner. She suggested a few places. So after the show, we walked around the corner and there was the Spur. Now the Spur is good value for money. It’s also where we just about raised our children as far as eating out is concerned, so I am over it, but it was there and we were there and Mike & Julian were game. But all I could think of was Riana asking me, ‘where did you end up going for dinner?’ And me replying ‘The Spur!!!’  Aaaaagh! Sweet Riana would never judge, but if money is to be spent, let’s do it somewhere different! So I said to the others, “I’m over the Spur” let’s find Riana’s suggestion of JB Rivers.

CavendishAnd so that’s where we went, only to enjoy the BEST ribs I have had in a very very long time.  They were R86 for 500g. We bought home plenty leftovers and Mike & I had them for breakfast!
ribsDrool!

One other thing that happened last night, far more significant than eating ribs at JB Rivers was a 10 minute stop at the AA shop in Cavendish. It was only afterwards that it dawned on me the significance of the unexpected opportunity. We had wandered out of the movie house and strolled randomly through Cavendish, PAST the Spur, when Mike spotted the AA shop and said to Julian that was the place he had to go to to get his international driver’s license for our trip to Italy in November.  First we thought they were closed, then we saw someone in the shop and popped in. Julian didn’t have his ID book with him, but they said he just needed his driver’s license. 10 minutes later, he walked out with his international driver’s license.

Julian in AABoom! Done! It was just so convenient. We happened to be there. They happened to still be open. They closed as we walked out the door. I suddenly saw the hand of God in this.  I was reminded of Isaiah 65:24 “Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear”.

I have spent a lot of time praying about our overseas trip. Not wanting to do anything outside the will of God, spending His money on a seemingly large holiday for just Mike & I, I am keen to seek the Lord’s face each step of the way….car hire included.  So when these things happen, they are a reminder to me of His grace on our lives. He has heard my prayers. It’s comforting.  God is at work, when we are not.

Mike and I have a very happy marriage and intend to keep it that way, so Julian is designated driver, Mike is navigator and Helga is in the back saying, ‘stay right, stay right!’ (They drive on the right in Italy!) What an adventure it will be. We leave on 30th October and arrive home on 30th November. Yep! One whole month. I hope to be able to blog every day, so you can follow our journey down Italy, to some of the places Mike’s late Dad visited during WW2 and then, sail with us for 19 nights from Genoa back to Cape Town.

Right now, it’s a bit of a dream that we will be doing this at all.

Off to see Granny.

God bless you loads!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
