So today was a significant day as it was the last day for Mavis. She has been a part of our lives for years. When she first came it was in order to try stop Mike’s Mom, aka Granny from doing so much housework. Then, in 2009 when Granny broke her hip, Mavis came every day. I wrapped up all the paperwork as best and legally as I could. She seemed very happy…this is Mavis with her husband Boswell..
What may happen is when I need the ironing done, I can call her.
#373 of my 1000 thanks is that this process is over – ending someone’s employment is far harder than beginning it. I found it all rather stressful.
Today was rather an interesting day. As I sat working at my desk, it was to the sound of about 8 truck loads of soil being emptied onto the road works behind our house. Then came the massive front end loader whose job it was to spread it all out and eventually this afternoon came the vibrating steam roller that started compacting it all. This all unfolded on an exceedingly warm winter’s day – the temperature was easily in the mid 20s, possibly higher. I have been in short sleeves all day.
There is a little rain forecast for tomorrow, but not nearly the volume that we need. God knows our needs and for the City of Cape Town at large, it is for rain. The situation is now quite dire as we have not had enough rain to fill the dams that feed the city and it means they will dry up through the upcoming summer months. I think each home is going to have to make a plan to find water either via tanks or through a well point. Our tanks have been amazing. Our latest water bill was R4. We used 90 litres a day between the three of us….30 litres each is pretty impressive. I think Morgan is using only bottled water for drinking and cooking. We are only flushing using tank water. Mike wants to get another tank and then link them up to our house so that they can be used for the washing machine and toilet flushing. The tanks have been amazing.
Today Mike mowed the lawn. It was thirsty work…he did a great job.
At the end of it, he came to me for payment. I found some of his money and paid him because I didn’t have enough! 😀 Boswell, husband to Mavis usually comes to do the garden when he has a day off and he told us today he will still come if we need him.
There were two other things that I did today. I phoned the bakkie hire place Julian is using this coming Thursday and asked if I could drop off the 100 boxes there on Wednesday afternoon. The owner was only too happy for me to do so.
The other thing I did was pay for the Jerusalem leg of our holiday. Our ship stops for one day in Israel and there is an excursion to Jerusalem. That’s going to be great. God willing they will have enough people to make up the bus load and all will go off as planned. What a blessing!
#374 of my 1000 thanks. Israel excursion is paid! 🙂
So all in all, it’s been a productive day.
Psalm 23:2
He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters,
There is no stress required!
These are the days!
Keep the smile going!
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
