Jack of all Trades, Master of Many

That’s what I call Mike. When we met he was the resident manger of the YMCA on Queen Victoria Street and maintenance was his portfolio. I say that while working at the Y he got a degree in saving money. He rewired the kitchen, laid carpets throughout and refurbished just about every single room. When the washing machine stopped working, he found the cause – a sock sucked into the outlet pipe. He serviced the Y’s bakkie, turned storerooms into dorm rooms and turned the accommodation into a roaring success. He was moaned at for making money for the Y. The bosses told him they were non-profit making!

He’s always been a handy man of note and proved it by building all sorts of things – from wall units to a writing bureau, from the kitchen to the entire upstairs section of our home. He’s broken down walls and built up others. He designed the cottage and built many pieces of furniture. Stacey has a kist that he made for his matric woodwork project (and for which he won the matric woodwork prize). He built Julian a TV cabinet for his house here in Cape Town.

But with his many years of full time work, his handyman-ness had to take a back seat. There just was not a lot of time and his often heard mantra was “I’ll do it when I’m retired!”

And so he retired.

And now he is beginning to do a lot of maintenance. With the water restrictions, he has ordered two water tanks (jojos) and built a slab for one of them…

And today, the 31st October 2016, he climbed on the roof of the patio and cleaned the gutters….it’s what everyone should do on the last day of October! 🙂

Good job!

While the Bible says he who finds a wife finds a good thing, it also says…

James 1:17

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”

Mike is a good and perfect gift.

I am daily grateful for him. But my journey to 1000 thanks is not only to do with the big things. It’s to look for the little things to be grateful for.

# 74 of my 1000 thanks is for Rooibos tea. I can drink as much as I like as I prefer it black.

# 75 of my 1000 thanks is for the month of October. It’s been a very busy but profitable month and I am grateful.

Love it!

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
