12-40pm
A few times as I sat in church this morning, I thought about what was happening on my kitchen table. We had woken late and I shot out of bed at 8-15am, chopped an onion and a big pack of stewing beef, browned it, made coffee, threw the beef into the crock pot and went and got ready for church. I knew that when I walked back into the kitchen, lunch would be three quarters of the way done. It was such a nice thought. When we arrived home, the smell of rich brown stew DID NOT greet me. I made a bee-line for kitchen only to find that I hadn’t turned the slow cooker on at the wall. It was stone cold and in this weather, colder than usual! I was so cross with myself. I’ve said that about 20 times since I got home. Grrrrr.
I immediately threw it all back into the pot in which I had browned it, got it hot again and put it back in the slow cooker. Now it’s well on its way again…
….but I have to say that the frustration I feel is irritatingly high! As I embraced the annoyance, I wondered how to make it go away and feel better! I concluded two things. One, is this is a first world problem! Just look at that delicious stew! So, it will take a little longer to cook, but it’s a major blessing to have that cooking in my kitchen! The second thing is that I was reminded to look for light! The cooker has a light on it. When it’s on, the light is on. If I had remembered to look for the light, I would have seen it was off….
And so it is in all of life. Regardless of what happens to you, look for the Light! John 8:12
When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Next time, I’ll remember to look for the light. Lesson learnt!
Yesterday, I went to Longbeach Food Lovers Market and found they had made Low Carb Bread! Yeah! It was expensive (R39 for a small loaf), but that’s the nature of the ingredients. I bought a loaf……had a piece, then sliced the loaf, wrapped every two slices and froze it…
With the cold weather we’ve been having, it’s great to have bread without the associated wheat.
Louise sent me a piece written by Max Lucado. As she wanted to share it with me, it’s great to be able to share it with you:
“The apostle Paul shaped history. Yet Paul would die in the jail of a despot. No headlines announced his execution. No observer recorded the events. Doesn’t look like a hero. The fellow who changes the oil in your car could be a hero. Maybe as he works he prays, asking God to do with the heart of the driver what he does with the engine. I know, I know…. Doesn’t fit our image of a hero.
John Egglen, a deacon, stepped in and gave the sermon for a few folks who had arrived before a snowstorm that prevented the pastor from getting there. In a moment of courage, he looked straight at a young boy in the service and said, “Look to Jesus. Look!” The boy’s name? Charles Haddon Spurgeon, England’s “prince of preachers.” You never know… tomorrow’s Spurgeon may be in your church or be your neighbor. And the hero who inspires him might be in your mirror!
I am sure when you look in your mirror you see the hero of more people than you can imagine.”
Keep the smile going.
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
