Green Card. Cape Point. Matan Gotlib. All feature in this blog.
Say Green Card and itt conjures up all sorts of American sounding thoughts…but Cape Town has a Green Card of its own….and it’s a fantastic deal. If you are South African, living in Cape Town and have proof of address, you are eligible and it’s a winner!
You get it from the Table Mountain National Park office – I usually go to the Tokai branch, which is on the right just before the Tokai Arboretum. I bought mine on 4th November and it cost R110. For that you get 12 entries into several (but not all) of the paying national park amenities in the city. The most expensive entry you can use for this is Cape Point, which currently costs R110 per adult. Yesterday, I took my niece, Jessica and her boyfriend, Gerrie and we went to Cape Point. Three of the above clips were taken off this card for the three of us. Such a good deal! So we paid no gate fee! Do note, that if you do use extra clips for guests to get into any of the parks, they have to be SA citizens and have to have a SA ID of some type with them. I usually use my card to go to Silvermine reserve and sometimes Seaforth Beach. It is NOT valid for Kirstenbosch or Table Mountain. The card expires after a year and if you haven’t used up your available entries, you lose out. If you use up your 12 entries within a year, you have to wait until the expiry date before you can get a new one. What we will do is when mine is used it up, Mike gets one and we use his. If you only go to Cape Point with it, you’ll get 12 entries worth R1320 and would only have paid R110 for the card. Now that’s a saving! When you apply, take your ID, an ID type photo, proof of address and R110 and you’re away. Have fun!
So we went to Cape Point and went up to the top in the Flying Dutchman. The walks at the upper station are lovely and lookout points plentiful. The views were spectacular…this is looking down to the very point of Cape Point…
You can walk down multitudes of steps to get to lookout points which all have spectacular views…
But you have got to walk all the way up again. And then there are more steps to get to the lighthouse up theeeeerrrrre….
You need a good pair of walking shoes. The weather was perfect – plenty of cloud cover and no wind. This is at the lighthouse…
We then walked the thirty minute route to ranger’s hut. Gerrie and Jess looking great!I spotted this sticker at one of the lookout points…
Matan Gotlib was an Israeli soldier killed in Gaza on 30th July last year. He had three months left in the army. When his friends were discharged from their duties and started travelling around the world, they took with them these stickers to commemorate Matan’s life and let his name and face live on in some of the places he wanted to visit. He is seen in so many places, including Cape Point and now on my blog.
Revelation 21:4
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
It’s not about now.
God bless you!
In His Grip,
