2-25pm
The sun momentarily broke through a thick layer of clouds over Fish Hoek beach this morning, and I was there to witness it…
The sea was cold when I first got in, but after swimming for a little, I warmed up. Mike ran to the end of the beach and back. By the time he got in the water, I was getting cold again and we got out together. The beach shower was warm in comparison to the sea. I sat on the bench with a massive beach towel covering me from my toes to my neck. What a treat. I felt ALIVE and CONTENT! Two great words!
I watched a couple run past me. They were probably 10 years older than I and seemed to be able to run 10 times the distance I can. “Nothing wrong with her Achilles tendons”, I thought. There was a time that I could run as effortlessly as she – will that time come again? Most probably it will! I’m so glad to say my Achilles tendons are improving. The instep in my running shoes has made a big difference. So has swimming in the sea. But I think the biggest improvement has come from doing the primary exercise of standing with the balls of my feet on a step, holding onto a rail to keep my balance and slowly moving up and down. Stretching the tendons up and then stretching them down. While it is painful to do, the after affect is amazing. Yesterday, I caddied for Mike round 9 holes and did well. I could feel them at the end of 9 holes, so only did one or two of the second nine with him. By the end of the day, I was pretty much pain-free. 😀 I am so grateful.
The beach was peaceful…
Having a light breakfast this morning, I figured again, that it’s important to appreciate every single day and each activity I can do in it. I won’t always be the age I am with the ability I have, so let me embrace this day and enjoy all that God has given me today!
Psalm 118:24
“This is the day the Lord has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it.”
AMEN!
The day was made better by stunning one day cricket going on between SA and the West Indies. Reminiscent of almost 9 years ago, when Australia posted that incredible score of 434/4. Devastatingly high and seemingly impossible to get, South Africa stunned the cricketing world by a magnificent display of tenacious run-making…the final score all those years ago…
Today SA opened the batting and in their 50 overs, only lost 2 wickets with AB De Villiers breaking records left, right and centre…
Hashim Amla and Riley Rossouw are not mentioned in this story – both also got more than 100 – Rossouw getting his maiden ODI century. While AB may have been the dramatic, swash-buckling, get-the-crowd-roaring, extrovert hero of the day, Hash was the quiet one, getting his best total ever in ODI – not out on 152.
AB’s innings…
439/2 – the West Indies need 440 to win.
Nine years ago, cricket lovers in Australia poo-pooed any idea of SA beating them in that historic match. But we did.
I will not poo-poo the West Indies out of this match. Let’s watch and see!
Keep the smile going!
God bless you TODAY!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
