I Press On…

1-05pm

It was Woody Allen who once said…

90-percent-of-life-is-just-showing-upLife does not stop. You may, but it won’t. It is a surreal thing to come away from the deathbed of a loved one, after they have breathed their last and gone from this world. I remember walking outside of the hospice my Mom was in. She had just died. I had watched her take her last breath. I had said, ‘she’s gone.’ Afterwards, we went outside and nothing had changed. Everyone went about their business. Cars were rushing by. People were shopping and making phone calls and life just barreled on.

I think it is in the hardest of times that 90% of just showing up comes into play. When we are happy and content, showing up is easy. But when things are going wrong, that’s when it is tough. The Apostle Paul had seen some life. It was expected for him to be persecuted. After all, he had gone from fanatical Jew to fanatical Christian. It is believed that he was in his 50s when he wrote Philippians. (When he had his experience on the road to Damascus, he probably was in his early 30s). He had spent 2 decades of his life promoting the Gospel. In those years, he was disbelieved, not trusted, betrayed, arrested, persecuted, thrown into prison, lashed, tortured, hungry, shipwrecked. Not an easy life. In Philippians 3, in the middle of verse 12, there are just three words, he says, that you and I need to remember and repeat:

I press on…

And that’s the secret of getting life done. Just don’t stop. Are you depressed? Are you sick? Are you in pain? Are you lonely? Are in mourning? Are you experiencing the worst possible thing you can experience? Press on. Breathe the next breath. Take the next step. Do the next thing. Press on.

The difficulties you face now will be over. Life has a way of continuing to everyone’s benefit. It is not static. Things will change. Whether you have a terminal illness or not, you will die! That’s the route we all go eventually. Death is inevitable. That’s the future. Today is the present. It’s the gift God has given you. Life. Live it. Press on.

Pitch up. Keep going.  Don’t stop.

Think up. Be positive. Smile.

Look up. Seek God. Have faith.

I know these words sound almost trite….like it’s an impossible ‘quick fix’. I know the pain you feel and the desperation in your mind and heart, but I implore you to believe that things will get better. Never lose hope. God feels your pain. He will not abandon you. Release the pain to Him now, and when you take it back, release it again. He’ll always be there to receive it. His yoke is easy.

God will not abandon you. He is with you, ALWAYS, ALWAYS!

Keep the smile going.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx
