I think I mentioned yesterday that the Royal Hotel in Durban surpassed my expectations. Today I heard more of its story. It was left to run down between being sold and the sale going through, so many of the reviews may be on point. I spoke to the manager today. He said we should start seeing the reviews change. He’s absolutely right. I will write a good review. Mr. Munsami and I met in the elegant dining room just after 6-30am. He had come in to check on the breakfast and see the kitchen staff. In front of the scrambled eggs, I told him breakfast looks good and I had been happily impressed with what I had seen so far. I also mentioned the not so great reviews I’d read and that I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived. He was very keen to hear my feedback and I invited him to join me at my table. He told me the history of the recent sale and that he had taken over running it 2 months previously. Things are beginning to change.
I love second chances. This hotel has another chance to shine.
It’s never too late to make a change in life.
After breakfast, I headed to the business centre where a number of teacher applicants had already gathered for their interviews with the Abu Dhabi State schools. The Skype stations were all set up and at promptly 8am, the candidates had a briefing from the co-ordinator for the day, Skyping in from Abu Dhabi. After that, it was all systems go and I spent the next 5 hours getting teachers in and out of their interviews.
At 1-30, I returned to my room, had a cappuccino and phoned Mike. I checked out just before 2pm and at 2-45pm, I the Durban airport shuttle is picking me up to take me to the airport. My flight is only at 6pm, but it’s a case of hanging around the hotel or hanging around the airport. I’ll have a bite to eat at the airport and then fly home. I arrive 10 minutes after my brother’s flight arrives, so, if all is on time, that will work well. I fly to Jo’burg on Saturday and have Sunday morning doing the same thing there. Cape Town interviews are next week and then they are done for a month or two.
I have so enjoyed doing this work. Who knew that working in teacher recruitment would be where I landed after being in radio for 20 years?
You never know what is around the next corner.
Lamentations 3:21-23
“But this I call to mind and therefore have hope: the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Embrace each moment.
These are the days!
Keep the smile going.
God bless you!
