I went onair and told the my listening audience that my last working day at CCFm is Friday 30th May. People understand. 10 years is a long time of getting up early. I’ve been involved with the radio station since its inception in 1993 when I helped capture data – I put song titles on the system. In 1995, I wrote thank you letters to advertisers. In 1996, I started presenting Learning Together, a 15 minute show on health issues. 1997, I started working daily at CCFm, selling advertising. I continued some onair work and in 2004, started presenting Rise and Shine on a daily basis. It’s been a blessing, I tell you. I’ve grown up through working at CCFm. I’ve just been reading through the many messages on FB and my blog and the smsses from this morning’s show. I feel quite overwhelmed at the kind words people are saying.
Two years ago, this would all make sense. I would have stopped work to sacrifically look after Granny, but I wasn’t called to do that then. Now I’m coming home to take better care of Mike! I’m excited about the future. I’ll be doing some stuff with Mike. I’m also working on recording 90 second marriage slots. I was hoping to get those recorded today, but the heavy duty curtaining for our home recording studio is not yet finished so I’ll have to wait another day or two.
The other project is to sort out the cottage. We need to get the cane lounge suite cushions recovered, so I went to Mamacos to look at fabric. I spotted a number of different ones, but I actually thought with the white walls and rusty orange carpet, this might work….
It also opens lots of possibilities for curtains. Initially, we had thought of a ‘beach cottage’ kind of look, so I took this photo from the Biggie Best factory shop at Access Park…
It’s a lot more expensive (R149 per metre). It would be crazy to spend too much to recover the cushions – we need between 8 & 10m – then add foam and labour -too much and we may as well buy a new lounge suite. I’ll wait for the quote.
My next port of call was Merrypak, where a young listener, Emma works. Here we are with Emma all decked out in her working clothes….
Great to meet you Emma! 🙂 While at Merrypak, I spotted this…for R298

Got home and made myself a mega mega cappuccino… That was big!
This morning I read the shortest psalm in the Bible which is Psalm 117. It has just 2 verses:
“Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol Him, all you peoples, for great is His love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord.”
29 words. It starts with Praise the Lord and ends with Praise the Lord. It reminds me to praise the Lord in the morning and to praise Him in the evening. Why? Because regardless of what happens between sunup and sundown, God’s love for us is GREAT! It swamps us. It enfolds us. It never leaves us. We are painted with it. It’s like white on rice. You can’t rub God’s love off you. It sticks! AND God’s faithfulness endures FOREVER! If you are faithless, He remains faithful. So cling to Him in those times of doubt and praise the Lord. He is with you all day long and nothing can change that. He will help you today.
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
Gratitude Pic… Shireen posted this on my FB page yesterday. So appropriate for me. I am excited about the future. What can be better than doing Rise and Shine? God’s got SOMETHING behind His back for me AND you.
