10-21am
These are very moreish. Once you start nibbling, it’s hard to stop, but at least they are not laden with carbs. They only contain seeds and come from the book the Real Meal Revolution. The batch I made came to R70, but you can bring the price down by buying bigger quantities of seeds to start with. My friend, Riana, who has made tonnes of these and has been an expert adviser in the whole process, says you can get the price per batch down to about R40, which is great! Here’s what you need:
3 cups of seeds. I bought pumpkin, sunflower and sesame seeds. But you can use flaxseed which is also a less expensive seed.
Add to those, 2 heaped tablespoons of psyllium husks. Mix them all together with between half and three quarters of a teaspoon of salt…
Add to the seeds, 500ml of tap water…
Very quickly the psyllium husks start absorbing the water and binding it…it’s amazing. After about 10 minutes, you can stand a spoon up in the well bound, thick, gooey mixture…
Now, it’s time to smear it out on a tray. I didn’t have wax proof paper so I used tin foil. I sprayed it with spray and cook and using the flat side of a tablespoon I smoothed the mixture over the tray. I tried to get it quite thin…
It was now ready for the oven, which I had preheated to about 150C. In it went. After half an hour, I needed to cook supper, so I took it out and it cooled completely, allowing me the opportunity to cut it into pieces. After dinner, I put it back in and (almost) forgot about it. When they had browned, I turned the oven off and left them to dry out…the end product looked like this…
I also made a smaller tray of square ones…
There were 48 in total. But they are not big. If you go by the values on the seed packets, this batch contained 60g of carbs, so that’s 1.25g of carbs per cracker, which is much better than other savory biscuits! Altogether they were probably in the oven for about 1 and a half hours. Great for lunchboxes and snacks.
So, get cracking!
If you’ve got burdens today, I’ve got the answer…well not me, but the Bible…
Psalm 68:19
“Praise be to the Lord, to God our Saviour who daily bears our burdens.”
The riches encompassed in this wonderful verse are multiple. To start with we are addressing the Lord, our God and Saviour. Jesus is O, so present in the Old Testament and this verse is an example. Praise the Lord – He is GOD, yet He is also our SAVIOUR – He came to earth to save us. As much as He was present with the Israelites, He is present with us. It’s personal. His death on the cross was for each individual who has walked, is walking or will walk the planet. And it’s personal because the burdens He bears are of each one of us. He carries yours. He carries mine. Each DAY! He’s not carrying mine today and yours tomorrow. He carries both of our burdens each and every day! This is not temporary. He doesn’t carry our burdens for a season. He carries them when the sun is shining and when the rain is falling…for all time. So dump those burdens. Jesus is waiting.
“Jesus! the name that charms our fears, that bids our sorrows cease; tis music in the sinner’s ears, ’tis life, and health, and peace.”
God bless you today!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
