Mike & I woke early this morning, even before the alarm clock. We packed and by 6-01am we were on the road back to Cape Town. Fortunately, didn’t think too long about the fact that the next time I see Stacey, it may be after the baby is born. It makes me want to schedule another visit in between, but we shall see. Time will go so very quickly, although for Stacey I think it may drag a little!
Before we could even get onto the N2, we had to stop at the stop and go point! There was one other along the way and after that, there were no more stops. It was dark along the road works with no road markings, no cats eyes and very little light. Add to that intermittent swathes of heavy mist and there were some tense moments. But it all soon lifted. We stopped at Peregrine Farm Stall and managed to get three fresh Venison pies. Oh they are so good. David introduced us to this luxury and so we had to get one for him. The lure of the Peregrine Venison Pie was too much and this evening he arrived. Fortunately for him, his had not yet been eaten!
#637 of my 1000 thanks – that venison pie – we ate them when we arrived home and it made for a delicious breakfast. If you are ever passing the Peregrine Farm stall on the N2, – ask for a venison pie. It’s the most popular and is scrumptious.
We arrived home at 9-08am. I got stuck into work and after a couple of hours had caught up the most important work. Then I went off to gym. The other night I could not sleep and ended up scrolling through Twitter. I don’t have Facebook on my cell phone. I came across an article about exercise for the over 50s which said the most effective way to burn fat and increase metabolism is to keep your heart rate at the level of 180 bpm minus your age. For me that is lower than 130, which is a far lower rate at which I have been exercising. I decided today to try it, so I did some interval training. The flat lines are when I was walking at about 6.6km/hour while the ‘boxes’ are where I was running at 10km/hour.
The result was 4km in 30 minutes. My heart rate would get up to about 163bpm and when walking I’d get it down to about 130 before running again. Towards the end I walked for longer, because it was taking longer for my heart rate down to come down. Except right at the end when I ran the last stretch so I could reach 4km.
The result – far less fatigue.
I went on to do the circuit, stepping in between exercises, did another batch of machines and then swam for 30 minutes.
Doing it this way feels much safer.
A good day!
Galatians 6:2
Share each others burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.
These are the days.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
