I woke up this morning with, of all people, Hillary Clinton, on my mind. I saw a news story about her campaign to run for the prestigious position of US President. Hillary Clinton is 67 years old, turning 68 in October 2015. But elections are only at the end of 2016. If she wins the Democratic nomination as their lead candidate for President, by the time America goes to the polls, she will already have turned 69. If she wins, she will be US president from the age of 69 to 73, which is a bit of an irony because she was at Yale Law School from 1969 to 1973!
She’s certainly has the brand to take her nomination forward. She has determination, drive and tenacity. She’s been criticized, publicly embarrassed and humiliated. Hillary Clinton, regardless of her political beliefs, has to be remarkable for her ability to get back up again and carry on. She’s used to receiving criticism, but it must wear her down. The latest gripe is against her campaign logo which many suggest looks like a hospital sign…
Now I know from what is said in the press and splashed across television, that Hillary Clinton and the Democratic party at large, is generally very unpopular in Christian circles. I’m not a close follower of American politics and to be honest pretty much stay on the fringes of world and South African politics alike. One thing I do know about them – when campaigning, great offers are made. When the campaign is over, the election won and the new president begins office, somehow those wild offers of amazing promises begin to fade in obscurity. I think if I have to write about the kind of country I would like to live in, it would include the following:
1. Fairness – a system of fairness where the rich do not exploit the poor.
2. Honesty – no bribery or corruption.
3. Safety – proper policing .
4. Justice – A judicial system that is fair and efficient.
5. Excellence – where each individual strives to take care of his/her environment.
6. Bible based – with the world in the state it is today, I don’t believe we will ever find a truly Bible based nation. We are blessed in South Africa to be largely Christian, but we certainly are not run by God’s people.
Unfortunately on planet earth we will never find all of these attributes. While we are human, it can’t be perfect.
We’ll enjoy perfection in eternity though. There we will have far more than safety. We’ll have perfect peace, love and joy. It’s going to be pretty spectacular, far more than we could ever imagine.
Our job here on earth is to keep on going, trusting Jesus, allowing Him to guide our lives and doing the best that we can. He created this world for us to enjoy, so let’s do just that. Everything we have comes from God.
Psalm 24:1
The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;
Keep the smile going.
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
