Food Lover’s Market vss The Spur Breakfast

9-54am

This morning we were up by about 8am and went down to the Mall for breakfast. There has always been a bit of ‘breakfast competition’ between Longbeach Food Lover’s Market and The Spur. The Spur has offered a breakfast special  including coffee for a long time.

SpurWhen Longbeach FLM opened, they offered the same (or very similar) deal. When the Spur put their price up by a couple of rand, FLM stayed the same price for a short while and then followed suit. But NOW there has been a significant development that seems to have impacted the FLM restaurant very negatively…this morning at any rate. They have made the coffee R10 EXTRA!

FLMThe impact was astonishing. Throughout our breakfast at FLM from 8-15am to 9am, there were only about 3 or 4 tables occupied, (including ours). By 9am, the waiters were hanging about, desperate for patrons…

Empty tablesI prefer FLM. The people are more familiar – they recognise us. The restaurant is lighter and more airy. It looks cleaner. Wifi is easy. And they have newspapers available for you to read. NEWSPAPER

So the opposite is the case for the Spur. It’s dark and closed and sometimes the tables are a bit grimy. I’ve never really got the wifi sorted at the Spur, although I know you can get it. I don’t go to the Spur often enough to have a familiar waiter, so we’re always served by ‘strangers.’ The big plus for the Spur is that, if you request it, you can get your breakfast served on a piping hot griddle plate. That’s a plus. But for the R10 extra, I’m happy to stay with FLM.

When you are in business, you may think people are your friends. The waiters at FLM may have believed the 100s of patrons they serve each week will continue to come back to them, because they’ve done it weekly for months, regardless of the R10 increase. But if that’s what they thought, they were wrong! It’s a sad probability that many people appear to be your friends because of what YOU can do for THEM. R10 is certainly not worth breaking a friendship for!

Proverbs 17:17

A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

I’m glad I’ve got true friends!

Mike will be home in a bit and we’ll going off to have a round of golf. If you are reading this for the first time – Mike’s the golfer – I’m the caddy! Yeah!

Keep the smile going!

God Bless You!
