2-05pm
I don’t know why I haven’t written about this earlier. During my last week on air, I had Prof Tim Noakes in the studio. We had a few seconds of off-air conversation which went like this:
Me: Last time you were here, the SMS line was down, so I just went to your Facebook page and asked you the questions that people were asking you on that.
Tim: That’s not my page. That’s someone else.
Boom! Wow! Who knew! But then the show happened and the crazy whirlwind of leaving Rise and Shine unfolded. Now a couple of weeks have passed & I keep seeing his “Facebook Page” come up on my newsfeed. And so it remains that the 1000s of others who have liked the page actually think Prof Tim Noakes is behind it.
It doesn’t sit well with me.
This is mainly because, although a lot of the stuff posted on the page is good, from a LCHF or Paleo point of view, the people who have liked the page don’t know that it’s not Prof Tim whose posting them. They post questions and queries & must wonder why they NEVER get a response. The reason is because it isn’t his page and nowhere on the page does it say so. I don’t even think Prof Tim is on Facebook at all!
So it begs the question, how ethical is this? This person is posing as Tim Noakes.
The other thing I mentioned to Tim in the studio, is that this imposter has put Tim’s email address on the page. It’s the reason, he says, why he is suddenly getting so much email. Because Tim didn’t open the Facebook page, he doesn’t have rights to it, so he can’t get those personal details off.
I like to think that the person behind it, hasn’t thought about what he/she is doing and that they think it’s okay. All that needs to happen is for the Facebook page to clearly state that Prof Tim is not the author or owner of the page and that this page aims to promote the cause of the Paleo/LCHF/Tim Noakes Diet. And I think it would be a good idea and common courtesy to get Prof Tim’s consent to use his name and contact details. After all, they have got his email address!
Solomon wrote Proverbs and had lots of practical sound advice:
Give careful thought to thepaths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.
Proverbs 4:26
God bless you!
