Dramatic Argus Cycle Tour Action…

10-11am

While thousands of people were still lining up at the start of their 2014 PnP Argus Cycle Tour, already there had been a horrible accident 10m from the finish line. We saw it live on TV and I rewound it several times to try and figure out what happened. I took some photos from the TV stills. This one was moments before it happened….

Just before the nudgeIt looked like the guy in the blue helmet suddenly pulled ahead and in doing so seriously ‘nudged’ the guy in the white helmet…

Moment of the nudgeThe result was horrible…as the guy went down in dramatic fashion and his race was over 10m before the finish.  I hope the nudge was an accident.

Man downWhile the guy who caused the accident with the blue helmet (front right in the photo below) pushed on over the finish line…

Accident 2Not nice. That was what happened at the end of the race being closely televised because it was to capture the ladie’s elite race winner, who was Cherise Stander…

Cheries Stander Ladies winnerShe also won last year. It’s always poignant seeing Cherise because, at her young age, she is the widow of Burry Stander who died in a cycling accident in January last year. They had  been married for less than a year.

Mike & I walked to the intersection of Kommetjie Road and Ou Kaapse Weg to watch the first cyclists come round that corner before they head to Chapman’s Peak… there were these 4  cyclists in the elite men’s group who had broken away and were about 1 minute ahead of the leading peloton…

Leading elite menThe peloton came….

First pelotonAnd amongst the leading cyclists was the young man who went onto win the race…Capetonian (well from Franschoek), Nolan Hoffman…

Argus winner in action Nolan HoffmanIt was the first time that he has won the Argus and he was thrilled…

Winner interview Nolan HoffmanWhether you are walking through life, running or cycling, run to win the race …the prize is eternal life.

1 Corinthians 9:24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it.

And so it’s a really quiet Sunday with books to read, cross stitch to do and lunch to cook.

God bless you loads!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
