One of the great things about having adult children is seeing how they turn out in relation to their childhood traits and personalities.
Stacey was the great inquirer as a child. She was always curious as to how stuff worked and at the age of 7 took apart 4-year-old David’s remote-controlled car. She also got David to pass her small stones which she tossed into the neighbour’s pool (while standing on a ladder at their garden wall). She was sound engineering at the age of 12 and quite the entrepreneur during her teenage years. It is not surprising that she went onto become a successful engineer.
David was the great negotiator, always looking to communicate with those around him. Musically gifted, he studied classical guitar and today is an excellent guitar teacher. Recently when I was looking for something, I found a ‘contract’ that David had made for Mike and I to sign. On first inspection, it looked cute – a bit unusual, but cute non-the less. On taking a closer look, I saw through his ploy immediately…he had included some ‘fine print.’
He had us sign this serious contract (which was not difficult to sign) but included an addition…
Clearly those were the days (David was 13) when I didn’t approve of bubble gum. I turned the piece of paper over and made my own contract…
Ha ha, my ‘fine print’ has some serious implications for David…he signed it!
….and look after me in my old age!
So I’m planning on buying some bubble gum for my son. I think it is required for me to make good on my part of the bargain!
Fun to find these things!
Today has been a quiet day. We went to an 8am church service. Had coffee afterwards with the Berettas and then Mike went to hit golf balls and I did some shopping for lunch. I also bought a new lampshade. An old pink one had been getting on my nerves for months (probably years).
#624 of my 1000 thanks is for this new lampshade…
It looks much better than the pink one that used to belong to Granny and clashed with everything around it. Funny thing is, Mike was out when I put it up and he has yet to comment. Maybe he has noticed it and not said anything or maybe he hasn’t!
This weekend we were supposed to be going to Swellendam to visit Stacey, but it’s Masters weekend and Mike not wanting to miss the golf, postponed the visit. Last night around midnight (we were both watching) he said he was going to go to bed. “Not so fast!” I retorted. “I have sacrificed going to Swellendam this weekend for this, so you have to watch every last shot!” He didn’t complain! It’s going to be a long night.
Hebrews 11:40
God had planned something better for us.
What a blessing that is.
These are the days.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
