Crazy Golf Dream

We are home! We had a leisurely start and breakfast with Adrian and Stacey before bidding them farewell. They turned right onto the N2 and we turned left. 116km later we drove up to the house. They were home already. It was bitter sweet saying good bye to them, but we speak a lot on the phone. 🙂

I didn’t sleep well at the hotel, waking up in the night for an hour or so before drifting back to sleep and dreaming a crazy golf dream. I dreamed that there were a pool of caddies at a golf course, and I was one of them. I was caddying for one of the local professional South African golfers and he was so impressed with my caddying skills! His wife was there and she was so happy to meet me. This golfer did not have a name. He gave me a really bad ball – it was completely mis-shaped, so I went to Mike and asked him if he had some balls for this guy! He got out a bunch of his yellow ones and gave them to me.

The golfer teed off at the first, but by the time we got to the second, I had a problem with my shoes. I really struggled to get them sorted and by the time I had, my golfer had already teed off at the second and was out of sight. I was horrified. Suddenly the golf course was mainly a river and the only way for me to get to the green was along a steep river bank. By the time I got to the green, they had moved on (of course they had – that’s what happens in dreams). The river wound past the green and in order to get to the next tee box, they had gone via speedboat! The only other way was again along the steep river bank. I hurried towards the next hole, finally crossing a road and finding myself amidst a bustling African village market. I asked where the golf course was and they directed me in the right direction. To my relief I found my golfer about to tee off at the third.

And then I woke up.  I said out loud, “Oh what a relief that was a dream.” Mike responded. I started telling him about the dream, explaining and elaborating. He sort of made  response noises, so I thought he was following along, until, I just about got to the end and I discovered his ‘responses’ to the dream was a snore! What? He hadn’t heard a thing I had said. There I was pouring out my dream and Mike was snoring away! It was very funny. I laughed out loud, but he just slept on!

This morning I asked him if he remembered I had a crazy golf dream last night. Nope, he didn’t!  On our way home I told him about it and then about how he snored his way through my elaborate description. He roared with laughter. How rude! 🙂

In Bible times dreams featured largely in the lives of the prophets of God but today they seldom seem to. While I won’t say God never speaks to His children in dreams, I say He doesn’t seem to do it often.

The brilliance of His voice in His Word is far clearer.  While the Bible is made up of 66 books with many intricate & complex discussions, laws, prophecies and factual accounts, running from cover to cover are an undertone of sensible directions which lead us to know we can trust God.  The Bible gives us hope of a bigger picture – one that most times, we cannot fathom.

Psalm 17:6

I call on You, O God, for You will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer.”

Psalm 17:15b

When I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing Your likeness.

Crazy golf dreams or no dreams, these are the days. Our lives are in God’s hands.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
