Clearing out the Roof

We moved to this house in 1989. Stacey was 18 months old. David came in 1991 and we grew our family and our belongings. Then came Mike’s Mom in 2002. In 2009, Stacey married and moved out. Granny fell just after that and so she moved inside (with all her belongings) and David moved into the cottage where she had been staying. Granny moved to the Ladies Christian Home 7 months before her death in October 2013.

We have accumulated a lifetime of stuff and as the children moved out, a good deal of their stuff stayed behind. A lot of their toys, I really didn’t want to throw away because “one day I will have grandchildren”, so their toys were packed up and put in the roof, where they gathered dust – literally. Today, they all came down.  Here comes the potty!

Also up there were 1000s of photographs. I found this wonderful one taken in October 1984. It is of my dear friends the Beales. Aunty Wyn is on the far right.  Aunty Fuscia is on the left. The other elderly lady is Aunty Violet, who was Aunty Wyn’s Mom.

I went to visit them and I think at some stage I “Granny sat” while Oupes and Aunty Wyn went away for the night. This could have been the occasion as Oupes has a tie on…looking very smart! Aunty Wyn is now 95.

We also found this treat of a photo of Mike when he was about 5…

Mike aged about 19 passing out of the army…

My brother Julian while doing his basics at Wingfield…

My Mom’s Mom (Mops) on her 80th birthday – March 1977 – my Mom had hands just like hers…

My older brother Arnold and I in 1980. I was 16. He was 20…clearly we weren’t happy about being photographed!

#506 of my 1000 thanks is that the roof is empty and we have a lifetime of memories to show for it. When I woke up this morning, I would never have said that by this evening we will have cleared out all the stuff in the roof. #Grateful!

Proverbs 29:25

Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
