Today has been a lovely day. We woke at a reasonable time, considering the number of extremely early Christmas mornings we have had during the course of our marriage. No stockings bulging with extras, opened by wide-eyed over-excited children rising at 4am due to the exhilaration of the day! Instead Mike made coffee at about 7-30am!
The family was altogether for present opening and then half left to complete Christmas lunch preparations at Echo. We arrived there at about 1pm. We had a wonderful sit down lunch and then watched the first episode of The Crown. Then we went home and had a snooze before gathering together again. Five of us headed into Cape Town to see the Adderley Street lights. New this year is a Water Wise one.
I’ve enjoyed it.
Something has stuck in my mind since Friday. Julian and I went for a walk along the beach. We had spotted a little market on Recreation Rd. Fish Hoek and went via that. It was getting towards their closing time and people were beginning to pack up. We bought a few small things. I walked across the road to throw something in a bin. Next to the bin was a table manned by a guy in a wheelchair. He started talking to me about all the money raised from his table went to a ministry to help disabled people find God. He was mainly selling wooden crosses and necklaces. He also had a whole lot of crosses made out of lolly sticks. He had made them into Christmas decorations. I asked how much they were. He said those were by donation only. I took one and Julian gave him a generous donation. I liked the simplicity and the humbleness of the lolly stick cross. I came straight home and put it on the tree right at a place where I could see it.
Jesus came in a position of humility. To many, the lolly stick cross would be cheap and unattractive. Perhaps that is how the life of Christ was viewed. But the converse is true. Jesus Christ brought richness and abundance in so many ways and that is very, very attractive.
#518 of my 1000 thanks is for the wonderful gifts Jesus gives – love, joy, peace & hope come to mind.
Luke 2:11
Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
Happy Christmas! To God be the glory!
These are the days!
Keep the smile going.
God bless you!
