Christmas Day 2014

7-30pm

As the day draws to a close and I am able to reflect back upon it, I can say it’s been a lovely day. Cape Town put on her finest summer rain, with showers descending at lunchtime and pretty much setting in for the bulk of the afternoon. It’s only now that the clouds have cleared, and a few rays of sunshine are causing final shadows before the earth turns and the sun sets.

I woke early at put a leg of lamb in the oven and then went back to bed. Two hours later, I got up to check on it and made our morning coffee. The house was quiet. The last time we were alone on Christmas morning was before Stacey was born! Last year, we were in the Drakensberg and the year before we had Granny with us.  We went to church, which was  full and festive…

Full churchWhen we got home, David had arrived and we opened presents. Missed Adrian and Stacey who are with Adrian’s family and we missed Julian who is in Egypt…

Julian at the pyramidsI then got stuck in to my contribution to Christmas lunch. We went to our friends, Peter and Riana and their family. Riana had gone to a LOT of trouble and everything was beautiful…

TableAfter plates of starters, we had a massive Christmas buffet…

Christmas buffetFollowed by the most amazing red velvet cake. It’s sugar free, flour free, with beetroot for colouring, smothered in cream and berries…

Christmas pudIt’s so hard NOT to overeat on Christmas Day when you are faced with so many options. We celebrated the birth of Christ. No celebration is too big!

Isaiah 9:6

For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

After  leisurely cappuccinos,  the men gathered outside to watch Peter fly is battery operated model sea plane….here she comes…

And so another Christmas passes and as I look towards the end of 2014, I am grateful and content.

How to freak out your friend…
