Caught in Protests

Wednesday

Julian usually comes on a Wednesday  but this week he arrived last night, so this evening we went out for dinner. We decided to go to Imhoff to one of our favourite restaurants Blue Water Cafe. The sun is still setting early so it was already dark when we drove along Kommetjie Road. Suddenly, I saw black smoke and fire. From the distance we were at, it looked as if it were beyond the Ocean View traffic lights. But as we got closer, when it was too late, I realised the fire was on our side of the road and it was a few metres from the lights. We were turning right at that intersection. There were a whole bunch of people on the right of the road and they were throwing stuff onto the newly lit fire. At that moment, a shower of rain came down and dampened their efforts. There was a car in front of us, which drove onto the wrong side of the road to get around the fire. I followed that car, literally driving between the protesters and the fire. I then turned immediately into the Imhoff car park. At that moment, the police had also arrived. Everyone seemed calm. They were just burning stuff in the road.

Leaving the action behind us, we went into dinner and had a lovely meal. As we settled the bill, we were told we could not get back to Fish Hoek as the entire road was not blocked by fire. We would have to go round, which is about a 30km route instead of 6km. When we came out, there were dozens of people on the road, stoking the fire…

Apparently it’s to do with a protest that is to take place tomorrow. I was grateful to get home safe and sound.

That was the drama of the day.

I worked quite a lot this morning and had a couple of hours free this afternoon. We also went for a walk down to the Sun Valley Pond which is looking stunningly full!

So good to see what the rain has done and how full the dams are getting. This is the pond two months ago on 9th June 2019

So grateful!

I can’t let today go by without mentioning Granny, who, if she had lived would have turned 95 today. Never forgotten and always loved. Here she is 8 years ago…

Philippians 4:7

The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,
