Cape Town’s Unique Charm

This morning, I looked at the day and thought I HAD to join friends in walking some of the steps in Kalk Bay. Ever since Mike & I visited the Cinque Terre (5 Towns) on Italy’s west coast, I have marvelled that we, here in Cape Town, have our own (only better) Cinque Terre. You can walk it or you can catch a train through the picturesque peninsula towns of Muizenberg, St. James, Kalk Bay, Fish Hoek & Simonstown.  All sea front, all settled perfectly between sea and mountain, they are a Riviera in our own back yard….without the exorbitant rand/$ exchange rate.

We began by walking up Boyes Drive and admiring the spectacular view of Kalk Bay….

Kalk Bay from Boyes DriveJust look at that beautiful blue sky….and this is ‘winter’ in Cape Town!

We soon got to Jacob’s Ladder and started the descent back to the Main Road…

Jacob's Ladder Kalk BayOn arriving at the bottom, we walked along the Main Road and walked up the next steps which was a walk and a half….puffing and panting we arrived at the top…this was the final flight…just when we thought were we almost there, we puffed our way up this lot…

Kalk Bay StepsWhew! We decided to go back down them. Once you get to the bottom of this particular flight, the steps give way to a zig-zagging path which is easier- it is very picturesque…

A mandatory tree-hugging stop….the tree was asking for it…

The final downhill…

Quaint Kalk Bay side streetsIf you are in Cape Town, no airfare required! No Shengen visa or grappling with the Euro. This could be anywhere in Europe or the world, yet we have the beauty right here!

Worth looking out for and experiencing for yourself. And, apart from a cup of tea a the end, it cost us nothing!

What a treat. Some of the best things in life are free.

Psalm 19:1

The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.

Keep the smile going!

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
