Bundu Bashing

Saturday

Dear Elsie

Today I got into some unexpected bundu bashing. I love walking on the mountainside behind. In the years to come, the access to the path I regularly walk will become less accessible as houses are built. This is our house from the mountainside behind. This path I’m on crosses a few plots. When they are developed we wont’ be able to walk here.

Further along the path, this is looking towards Simon’s Town…

And this is looking towards Fish Hoek…

There is a road that has not yet been built – it’s called Gleneagles Rd and it follows the contour of the mountain above the firebreak. I decided to walk up the firebreak at the start of Gleneagles. The firebreak is clear and easy to walk up. This is the view from the top of it…

The house on the left is on Cliff Road, which has only partially been built and this house and the neighbour have blocked Cliff Road with a gate. I could get onto the road but I couldn’t get out the gate and I knew that, so I (stupidly) decided to climb up the mountain, knowing there are a number of paths that would lead me to the Shark spotter hut at the end of Mountain Rd. Well, the path is completely overgrown and that was how my bundu bashing came about. I was wholly unprepared – walking in shorts, with no stick to assist.

At one point, I was completely stuck. I looked at my position and knew there was absolutely nothing I could do  – no one I could call. I had got myself into this position and now I had to scramble out of it. I kept going higher because I knew there was a path up there.

When I finally got to the road, this is where I had walked…

And that’s the gate I couldn’t get through, but I spent a good few minutes looking to see how I could get round and the next time, I will flipping get onto that road behind the gate and scramble up to the Mountain Rd at the end of it.  This is the view from just below the shark spotter hut. Easy to see sharks (and me swimming!)

Anyway, I now have 100 + bites from my swim yesterday & more than half a dozen scratches from bundu bashing today! It’s the penalty that you pay for playing in the wild outdoors.  No ticks though & gratefully no snakes were seen either.  The view was amazing.

The wind has picked up. I don’t think there will be any swimming until Tuesday.

Other things happened today. We bought a headboard for the loft – finally found one that will suit and was a great price. I also did a couple of hours of work.

And of course, I got to speak to you Elsie and see some of your toy friends – Blossom,  My Little Child & Tierjie. Back to school next week and swimming lessons begin. An exciting year lies ahead.

A good day.

Psalm 14:2
The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.

The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Gran xx 🙂
